Day 276: Friday Frenzy!!!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

What it is jive turkey?

Well today began Operation Let’s Lose Some Freakin’ Weight Yo! The trip was a little rough on my eating habits and my discipline but that was all my own fault. I had the will power, but it’s hard when your weakness is BBQ and then you go to the Mecca of delicious smoked meats and not have the same urges to feast. (Or according to my friend Andrea “The need to feed”) I think I went laxed because I celebrated my victories too soon. My stomach was like Bush on the aircraft carrier with the Mission Accomplished banner, this was (on weight) still has a long ways to go! I’m only really halfway there! Regardless, today I realized I want to be back where I was before the trip, I was more tone than ever before and my double chin was eroding to nothingness! So now I’m back on the wagon and eating right and well (yes dear readers… that is possible!) and I’m ready to finally break the century mark.

Breakfast: I had a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal squares for 5 points. Those things are awesome!

Lunch: We kept it simple for lunch and had a turkey sandwich with a side of carrots. The low cal bread at Publix is soooo awesome. It’s only a point for two slices! So lunch was only 2 points! WOWZERS!

Snack: I went and got my hair did (while a banshee child was getting his first haircut while screaming for dear life in the chair next to me… but that’s for another post) and then went over to Starbucks to kill some time. I was looking to try something new so I had a skinny vanilla latte. I’m sure it would have been good if Starbucks didn’t burn their coffee, but since they do it was mediocre. Sadly, I wish it was good because it was only 2 points. (Also, they thought my name was David, it’s no Hank but it works?)

Snack: We went to go work out around 6 so I needed something to hold me over until dinner. So I had a tuna sandwich with mustard and pickles. (Trust me… it’s better than it sounds. I would have posted a picture, but frankly it looked like a Friskies ad) It was good nonetheless and only 3 points.

SAWS!!!!!! I was so ready to get back in to the gym and try out my new Reebok Zigtechs!!! I warmed up on the treadmill and running in them feels like your gliding on an elliptical! I was doing 5.5 mph like it was nothing. Usually after a while my shoulder and chest muscles start to hurt because with my old shoes it felt like I was jumping up and down on pavement, but with these bad boys I didn’t have any pain at all. I was impressed yo! Anyways, so I warmed up and then worked on arms and core. Over the trip I lost the tone in my sides and now they are back to Flabbytown so I’m going to focus on getting that back. Then I hit up the elliptical on weight loss for about 25 minutes. Overall it was a pretty good work out, but unfortunately Leach is going to be closed until Tuesday so we are going to get creative to workout around the neighborhood.

Dinner: Megan made her signature mac n’ cheese with broccoli and it was freakin’ epic. I had 2 massive servings (1 1/2 cups is a serving) and it was only 12 points.

Dessert: We decided to get some awesome froyo at Yogurt Mountain for dessert. It turned out to be a good trip because it served as a bit of a wake up call for me with indulging on yogurt. YM has the nutrition facts which I glance at but don’t do the exact math on. Usually, I ballpark it and say with a sweet yogurt and toppings it’s 5 points. Tonight, my yogurt alone was 5 points so my yogurt is much worse that it should be. I really need to get back to tart flavors like taro or non fat flavors and have fruit toppings instead. It was a wake up call that I needed because that change would save me a bunch of calories and points that I underestimate. I’m conservatively going to say that my dessert was 8 points tonight.

So tonight I got to 32 points but with the exercise points I’m definitely good. Before I left I was beginning to think that 30 points a day wasn’t enough, but with meals like today it is definitely doable. See ya tomorrow!

Day 220: Done With Year One

Yes it’s true! I took my statistics final and I am cautiously optimistic about it. I knew the stuff and followed the steps which in statistics is all you can do so we will just see what happens! Either way, I’ll survive another day. I wouldn’t survive, however, if I keep eating the way I have been. I know I said I was going to do a better job this week with food, stress does some crazy things to your body (can I get a witness?) so I have eaten bad and have drank way too much diet soda and coffee instead of water so my I think my body is going in to reserve mode which eguals weight gain. I’m hoping to turn this rig around by Sunday so I’ll actually lose weight this week, but I’m also craving some bad food, like really bad (as you’ll see) because with the stress I’ve been craving comfort food and all I can think about it places to eat (which is what I used to always do which obviously didn’t turn out well.) I need to really detox my body and start fresh. I’m on a mental plateau and I need to get my head back in the game. This brainwash back to awesomeness will start tomorrow: summer.

Breakfast: I had a wafflewich because they are awesome and make me happy.

Lunch: So my final was from 12:30 to 2:30 so after we were done, we went to this cajun place called Po’ Boys to celebrate getting through the test and the semester. It’s a pretty awesome place with good, but super rich, creole cuisine. I had the Creole Sample with crawfish in this creamy sauce, bayou gumbo which was also cream based and red beans and rice. It was all delicious but I was stuffed after. Not sick, but just a lot more full than I’m use to.  As you can see, they didn’t skimp on the portion sizes either.

Dinner: I just had the other half of my burger from Monks yesterday which was just as awesome as it was yesterday. I also had some rice krispy treats.

Exercise: After an afternoon of cajun food and some residual stress from the final, I really wanted to hit the gym to burn some calories. (Warning: I am going to have a TMI moment, feel free to skip a few lines down… or you can just get over it.) So I haven’t bought new boxers in a while so as you can imagine they kind of look like I’m wearing a kilt when I’m wearing them. Well, I usually wear compression shorts to work out in but I forgot to put them on before I went to work out so I wore these flowy cotton boxers. When I got on the elliptical, the wedgie was unbearable, like turning into a sumo wrestler’s thong bad. So I had to quit, I went over to the bikes but it was still bad, then I did the rowing machine for around 15 minutes and by then I needed to go. I was a little frustrated that it was kind of a sucky workout but I’m playing racquetball tomorrow with Matt D. so that should make up for it.

So today was did have bad eating, but since you don’t get exercise points for using critical thinking during a final, I’m getting back on track tomorrow. Alright, time for bed. Royal wedding coverage starts in T-minus 3 hours and 35 minutes. See ya tomorrow.

Day 204: Tuesday Times

Sup yo!

So I went to the doctor and I found out that I just have some weird cold virus that is going around the school. The doc just said just drink a lot of water and to get some sleep and that will take care of it. It’s good to know that I’ll survive, but in the process, I got Megan sick! So we are in a bit of a role reversal where I’m playing nurse now instead of her (that sounded a lot weirder than it was suppose to…) Anyways, the last time I went to the doctor, my blood pressure was really high like 150/80. The nurse was a complete jerk and gave me a lot of crap about being big… but that’s for another blog. Anyways.. again, today my blood pressure was 108/50 and this nurse was thrilled! She was like “what ever you are doing keep it up you are doing awesome!” Then I told here about my weight loss and she was even more impressed. Pretty awesome trip to the doctor. Anyways, good times.

Breakfast: I was in a rush to get to campus to get in for an appointment so I brought a Fudge Brownie Clif Bar for breakfast. The Fudge Brownie one tastes a lot like those no bake haystack cookies that mom used to make. Pretty good 4 points.

Lunch: After being cooped up in the doctors office, I was pretty hungry for good lunch. I went to Pollo Tropical for some chicken and black beans and rice. It had been a while since I had the good ol’ 1/2 chicken combo so it was a good lunch. 13.5 points.

Snack: Before my marathon of classes, I needed some caffeine to get through. I had a skinny iced caramel macchiato and it was delicious. 3 points. (P.S. this might the weirdest face I’ve ever made on this blog.)

Snack: When I got home, I had matzos and cheese. 2 points

Dinner: Since Megan wasn’t feeling well, she said that she wanted some Pizza Hut for comfort food. We had thin crust pepperoni, onions and tomatoes. It was delicious but, 16 points for four slices.

So I got up to 38.5 points. Ouch! I was going to work out today, but it did not happen. I am going tomorrow morning though and I am going to give the rowing machine a whirl. Should be a good one. See ya tomorrow.

Day 195: Back in Town

Sup yo!

Megan and I spent the weekend out in the woods in central Florida with our campus ministry group for a weekend retreat. We had a blast just hanging out with friends and enjoying nature. So now we’re back and charged up for the rest of the semester.

Breakfast: For breakfast I had a bagel thin with a point of WW cream cheese. The breakfast spread was mostly muffins and other weird stuff, but luckily, our awesome friend Becky had brought a bunch healthy alternatives. So I had that and two glasses of OJ. It was about 6 points.

Lunch: When we were driving back to Tallahassee, we went to Cracker Barrel. As you may recall, I’ve been against them since they haven’t officially posted their nutritional info. Luckily though, I found a third party online that had some information. (Livestrong.com has it so that seems pretty credible.) Anyways, I had the multigrain pancakes with bacon and egg beaters. I also tried the sugar free syrup which was only 10 calories for the bottle. It’s obviously on the best syrup in the world, but it definitely did the trick. I also had 2 biscuits which were good but a little high in points (3 points a biscuit) So lunch was about 14 points.

Snack: When we got back in to Tallahassee, it was time for a snack. We decided to hit up Yogurt Mountain. I was good for a change and had yogurt and fruit instead of yogurt and ever candy topping under the sun. It was a lot lighter and I didn’t feel bogged down after. The yogurt was low in calories and fat free! (Winning!) It was only about 3 points.

Dinner: Neither of us were really in the mood to cook, so we both had a microwavable meal. I had an Amy’s Veggie Tamale that was okay, but not great. Either way it was only 5 points so not that bad for a lot of food.

So today I got to about 28 points which isn’t bad at all. Tomorrow I’m going to weigh in. I have no clue how it will go because I’ve been sick all week and the food at the retreat wasn’t the healthiest. We’ll just see what happens. See ya tomorrow.

Day 185: It’s Thursday Thursday Thursday!

Sup yall!

Sorry this post is late. I fell asleep watching basketball and watching my bracket have an aneurysm.

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich I think (it’s been a long day) 5.5 points

Lunch: I met up with my friend Andrea (AKA The Wolf) and her boss Jeanette for lunch at Roly Poly. We talked about social media and other fun stuff like that. It was my first social media consultation so to speak. I could totally do that for a living. Anyways, Roly Poly has a massive selection of sandwiches, soups and salads. I decided to have the Brown Derby salad with blue cheese, bacon, chicken, tomatoes and a spring mix with a honey mustard. It was so good. The salad was about 12 points which was high but delicious. So worth it.

Exercise: After class where we talked about Rebecca Black’s Friday Song, I went over to Leach to workout. Since Tuesday, I’ve been jonesin’ for another really sweaty cardio workout. I guess it’s been a while since I have just drenched my shirt and I miss that. Anyways, I did another 35 minutes on the elliptical which was beastly but fun. The program I did involved going backwards for like 75% of the time which made it all the more interesting. Fun stuff.

Dinner: Megan and I split a Kashi Mediterranean pizza which was really really really good. Half of the pizza was 9 points. It wasn’t supper filling, but it would have been better with a salad or a side like that.

Dessert: We had a BOGO for Nuberri (holla!) so we went there for some FroYo (yeah, I said FroYo.) They had this awesome Caramel Frappe yogurt which tasted exactly like the Caramel Frappacino (which I haven’t had in a long time.) Anyways, I had some of that with a little Health and Andes Mint. It was about 5 points.

Snack: I had some cocoa dusted almonds for 4 points.

Today I got to 35.5 points but with the exercise points I’m good. Awesome. See ya tomorrow.

Day 181: Weigh In Day!!!!!!

Why Hello!

It’s been way too long since I have posted and for that I’m sorry. I have gotten a lot of guff (yes, I said guff) from people about missing two posts in a row and for that I thank you. I really appreciate the support and accountability this community provides. It is a key contributor to my success so far and with the century pound mark in sight, your support is appreciated now more than ever. So thanks for calling me out Matt DC. I know you were just giving me a hard time, but it meant more than you know. So this morning I got in the scale with low expectations. We had to eat out the majority of last week due to the insanity of our schedule (somehow this week is going to be more insane. What what!) Anyways, for the few posts I did have, you saw the cheesey goodness that I consumed in mass proportions so I was just hoping to at least maintain (it would have been gained if I hadn’t worked out.) Well, my metabolism must be better than I think. I lost 2.2 pounds! Pretty awesome stuff!!! I am sooooo close to being in the 270’s now. I weigh 280.4 so super duper close. So with this week’s loss, I am 23.4 pounds away from 100 pounds. It’s getting there! Like I said this week is going to be bonkers, but we are going to be smarter with meals so 270’s: see ya soon!

Breakfast: So I made two packets of double fiber oatmeal but had it in the microwave too long. It always feels like when you make two packets, it either has the consistency of snot, or it blows up and gets all over the microwave. Well… the latter happened, and a large portion of my oatmeal was everywhere. (No, I did not eat the oatmeal shrapnel left in the microwave.) It was about 5 points worth of oatmeal. Yumtastic.

Lunch: After church, we needed to eat somewhere pretty fast so Megan could meet up with her friends for their study marathon. We ended up going to the Panera next to our house. Panera’s food is deceiving because you expect it to be healthy since it’s fresh but then it’s more points/calories than you hope. Regardless, it’s delicious so we still go there :). I had the half asain sesame chicken salad and half a Mediterranean veggie sandwich. It was really good and the salad was huge for just being half a salad. For the salad, the sandwich and the yummy baguette, it was 14 points. Not bad for how good it tastes.

Snack: While I was studying, I had 3 points of pretzels. That’s 30 pretzels. Holy cow.

Dinner: So this was a little different. While Megan was studying with our friend Catherine, I was at my small group and they had gotten dinner. By the time I was done it was 9:00 so I was starving. Megan texted my with news of leftover Chinese so I headed over there. I had Megan’s left over orange chicken with rice and an egg roll. I was good at the time. It took me back to my favorite super cheap Chinese place in Abilene where you could get a mountain of food for about $4. While the savoring moment lasted for a while, I still have the sodium taste in my mouth as I’m writing this. Not good. So it was high in points, and I have no real way of figuring it out, but here is what I know: I’m not the same guy I used to be. A meal like this was what I ate at least 3 times a week and it didn’t phase me at all. Tonight, I tried to go back to my old self and it wasn’t near as good as I remember. That’s so encouraging to me. To me it means that it would take a lot to get back to where I was, and that’s how I want it.

Snack: We went to Publix to get some groceries including watermelon and Cinnamon Toast Eggos which I have never had. They were delicious and  2 points.

So today wasn’t the best, but I have learned from my mistakes and I plan to work hard this week to lose a good chunk of weight. It’s going to be an interesting week. Bring it on. See ya tomorrow.

Day 168: First Monday of Spring Break!

Sup yo!

So this was my first time I actually had a day off on a Spring Break so I took advantage of it. I took today to actually relax before I needed to work on homework and other fun things. Alrighty then…

Breakfast: I started the morning with this some awesome breakfast. It was nice to have enough time to make some. I made a Veggie Sausage Egg MacMuffin (not McMuffin) and it was fantastic. It was only 6 points with a little cheese too! Good breakfast.

Workout: My friend Kyle invited me to go workout since we had some time. It.Was.Intense. We worked on upper body and core. He showed me a bunch of different workouts to do and they were beastly but I can feel it. We worked out for about 2 hours and got a really good sweat in. It was definitely a 13 point workout.

Lunch: After the workout, we went back to my house and had leftover veggie lasagna. 5 points.

Snack: Megan made some afternoon smoothies which were just awesome. Whoever thought to but strawberry and banana together was a genius. 3 points.

Snack: While watching Dr. Oz, I had some Double Fiber Quaker Oatmeal. 1 point.

Snack… Again: While looking through recipes for dinners to make for the week, I found this recipe for this awesome Roasted Red Pepper Dip. The dip is zero points and I just had 1.5 points of pita chips for dipping.

Dinner: Megan found this awesome Chicken Enchiladas with salsa verde. They were awesome. Each enchilada was 3.5 points and I had four so dinner was 14 points.

Dessert: I had 4 points of Edy’s yogurt swirl ice cream. Magical.

So today I got to 34.5 points which was awesome and with the exercise points I’m good.

Day 158: Friday Fun Stuff!

This week was nuts, and today was just the icing on the cake. Read on.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi Berry Crisp happiness. 4 points of awesomeness.

Lunch: So I got up to campus to work on some stats homework that I had to use a certain program. 3 hours later of not having a clue of what I was doing, I had to run to my internship. I didn’t have time to get a real lunch so I snagged this out of the vending machine. The reason the granola bar is out of focus is because I was running to my car while I was taking the picture. Regardless, it was really good and 4 points.

Snack I didn’t really have a lunch so the whole time at my internship I was starving. When I finally got home, I had another 4 point bowl of cereal.

Dinner: We went out to dinner with our awesome ACU friend James who is auditioning at FSU tomorrow and a bunch of the folks from the Music department. We went to La Fiesta which looks small on the outside but is massive on the inside (not that this matters.) Anyways, I had the spinach enchiladas and they were really good. We didn’t get our food for about an hour and a half because we had so many people so I did eat a lot of chips and salsa (can you blame me though? I didn’t eat that much all day. Awe well) Anywho, I’m not sure how much dinner was but it couldn’t have been more that 19 points. I’ll be better next time. See ya tomorrow.

Day 153: Weekend Update

Hey everybody!

So you’re probably wondering why I haven’t been blogging and I apologize for my lack of explanation. Well, on Friday we went down in to Central Florida with our church and Megan and I were counselors for a youth retreat! It was a complete blast!!! It was so much fun to just get in to nature and hang out with a bunch of middle schoolers and high schoolers. The theme of the weekend was “Rebeloution,” trying to get the kids to think differently and how they could break the social norms. They even changed up the schedule to create complete chaos. One of the ways was by changing up the meals. This morning the kids had this for breakfast: chocolate cake and cobbler. It was pretty intense. they really changed it up. It was a hoot. (Rest assured, they had healthier options like fruit so just to let you know so you didn’t think Christians have some weird campaign to encourage childhood obesity.) Regardless, it got me to think a lot about control. Since it was camp, our meals were set out for us. I didn’t have control of what I ate, I couldn’t change the meal or whether my meal had meat in it or not. It was tough but that’s how it is. I’m definitely not mad about it because I ate a lot of salad and fruit along with drinking a lot of water. It just got me to think about how important having the control of the situation is when you are trying to lose weight. At every meal, I ate whatever was on my plate. I don’t have that control in those situations and I know that a lot of people might say “well, just don’t eat it” but it’s just not that easy when you are use to meticulously planning out your meals. It was a great weekend and it was the recharging I needed.

Breakfast: As mentioned, there was chocolate cake, but I obviously didn’t go that route. I had a bowl of fruit loops/apple jacks with some fruit. It was a really good breakfast.

Lunch: We had chili for lunch (which was stellar) with chips and salsa with a salad. The salad bar at camp was better than most restaurants so I loaded up on that and just dipped my fork in to the ranch which I think even tastes better than just drenching your salad. You should really try it!

Dinner: It was sad to leave and get back into the thick of it, but it happens. On the road back, we gave Moe’s another try because it was the only decent choice in the area. I had the vegetarian quesadilla which was sooooo good. It just had black beans, grilled peppers and onions, and some cheese. I was impressed. Congratulations Moes, you might have won me back.

Snack: (yes, I need a haircut) I have always heard about how awesome Chobani yogurt was so when we went to Publix tonight I finally gave it a try. It was the first time to try Greek yogurt and I didn’t know what to expect. I really liked it! The texture is completely different which takes some adjusting but it was delicious. Good stuff.

So tomorrow is a new day and to get things right and lose some weight. I’m going to really stay within my points and work out a ton. For the first time in… ever, I actually feel athletic. We were playing a game yesterday that had about as much running as soccer and this kid came up to me who I had been blocking the whole game and he said “man! You were making me work for it every time! You run so fast for a big guy! You are as fast and as agile as a crazy 9 year old” Dang right I am.

Weigh in tomorrow. Get stoked. See ya tomorrow.
