Day 203: A Monday With Stuff in it.

So today was the start of my re-dedication of sorts back to being good so I can curb stomp the century mark pretty soon, and I think that it went pretty well! I feel a lot better today after fighting off whatever sickness I had. Still not sure what it was, but I’m going in to the doctor tomorrow and maybe they’ll be able to figure it out. Alright, let’s get dangerous.

Breakfast: We live super close to a Subway and we found some coupons in the paper (score!) so we went over there for some good breakfast. I had bacon, egg white, flatbread, pepper jack cheese, with peppers and onions. It was delicious and 9 points.

Workout: When we got home, I played a 24 minute session of Wii Fit. I got a good sweat out of it, but I could tell it had been a while since I’ve done anything active.

Lunch: Megan made some tuna salad (which I love!) with low fat mayo and pickles so I had a sandwich with some Boulder Canyon Rice Chips. Not a bad 6 point lunch.

Snack: I had matzos with laughing cow (my new favorite snack) and also some more of those rice chips.  3.5 points

Dinner: I made some of Uncle Jim’s Chili with rice. It was awesome. Plus, you can eat a ton for not a lot of calories.  13 points

Workout: While Megan was at a lecture tonight, I decided to head over to Leach for some much needed workout. I hopped on the elliptical and did a cross training program for 30 minutes. I usually have a workout mix on my iPod, but lately I’ve been just putting it on shuffle to see what pops up. Sometimes it’s great and I get pumped, then other times I get a bunch of John Mayer and Charlie Brown Christmas. Tonight was a beautiful exception. This was my shuffle playlist that was an awesome workout mix. If you need a good 30 minute mix, download this list:

An Accidental Awesome Workout Mix:
Alejandro- Lady Gaga
The One I’m Waiting For- Relient K
Mine is Yours- Cold War Kids
Shine- Newsboys
Two Step- Dave Matthews Band
The Wrong Way- TV On The Radio
Reinventing Your Exit- Underoath
They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!- Sufjan Steven

Anyways, I burned 400 calories in 30 minutes (it was brutal) then I walked on the track for a bit, then I found this machine that I’ve seen on Biggest Loser and other workout shows. I have no clue what it’s called, so if you know what it’s called please let me know. It was beastly, but I burned 200 calories in 20 minutes. It was a rough arm workout.

Snack: So last week I found these Vitatops Muffin Tops at Publix and being the Seinfeld fanatic that I am, the idea of Muffin Tops makes me happy so I bought some. The chocolate ones are really good so what I’ve been doing is warming them up and eating them with milk like it is a brownie. Definitely try them… now! 3 points

Today I went up to 36.5 points which is high, but I worked out a lot so it evened out. See ya tomorrow.

Day 202! I’m Back and GOAL WEIGHT TIME!

I’m back! Finally. I know it has been since Wednesday and between now and then I’ve been sick, been loopy on DayQuil, slept alot, have coughed up various colors of green (TMI?)  and have done a crapton of homework. It’s going to be a crazy end to the semester.

Anyways, so with being sick and eating a lot of bad (yet delicious) sickly comfort food, I only lost .2 pounds this week. I lost that much the week before last then last week I lost 4.8 pounds so maybe that pattern can repeat. I’m slowly feeling better but it’s one of those things where I’m feeling fine, but then when I get in larger groups I start to feel bad. It’s really weird. So I’m going to try to work out this week and maybe get some racquetball in too!

Non-Scale Victory: So I said I would never say three things on this blog: my social security number, my GRE score, or my waist size. Well time to break my own rule [insert deep breath here]. When I started this weight loss odyssey in the summer, I bought a pair of size 54 pants. Yeah… like 4 and a half feet of waistline. Pretty insane right? Today, I bought a pair of size 44’s. (For those playing at home, yes that is 10 inches.) I wore 44’s in 6th grade (which is pretty said in itself) but now I’m back down to it and it feels great. I have quite a bit to go and even thought I didn’t lose that much this week, that made me pretty happy. Legit.

Goals! Now I’m down to 275.2. Now what? I’m only 18 pounds away from 100 freakin’ pounds! What then? These are the questions that keep me awake at night (unless I’m knocked out from sudaphed.) So here’s my ultimate goal: (get stoked. Here… We… Go…) My ultimate goal weight is 157 pounds. Yep, that’s right, 200 pounds of total weight loss awesomeness. A lofty goal? I don’t think so. Doable? Heck yes. This thing is going to happen. I have no clue when it will happen. Maybe in a year, maybe in 2 years, maybe tomorrow (okay.. not tomorrow) Regardless, I’m stoked and I’m going to work on it starting…. now. Game Time Baby!

Breakfast: I just had a cinnamon toast eggo thingy with a little peanut butter. 3.5 points

Lunch: I wasn’t feeling too well and with that came a little antisocial so just the two of us went to Mellow Mushroom for Megan’s birthday lunch. We split an appetizer of their fantastic bruschetta and a cheese calzone that kind of looked like the horn phone on the Flintstones. It was a great cheap lunch. Not a bad 13 point lunch!

Snack: For a snack I had Christian nachos (matzos and a Laughing Cow Chipotle Queso cheese wedge) Pretty awesome stuff. 2 points

Dinner: We were trying to figure out where to go for dinner that wouldn’t be too expensive or unhealthy. After driving around and making a trip to Earth Fare, we decided to do something a little different. Yesterday, Megan bought this really nice Chinese dish set from World Market so we bought some vegan dumplings from Earth Fare and Pepper Chicken with rice at home on our new plates. It was a cute, quaint and delicious dinner. A good way to celebrate Megan’s birthday.  13 points

So today I got to 31.5 points. A pretty great way to start off a new week with a lot of weight to lose. Here… We… Go… See ya tomorrow.

Day 190? Seesh! Edition

For once, I had a Tuesday that didn’t kick the tar out of me. Thank goodness. Although my allergies are being dominated (thanks pollen!) it’s been pretty good. Alright let’s talk food yo!

Exercise: We slept through our alarm this morning and I was just feeling crummy. I haven’t been hungry in days and I have just felt bloated (yes… I said bloated) and bogged down so I’ve just been out of whack. I really wanted to hit up the gym this morning, but with the time constrains it wasn’t going to happen. Instead, we did the Jillian Michaels (patooh! Oh yeah, I spit every time I say her name now) 30 Day Shred DVD. I have only done it a few times at Level 1 but today we kicked it up a notch and for some reason went for Level 2. The best worst idea ever. It was brutal with some beastly cardio, abs, and strength. I sweated like a stuffed pig. It was that gross sweat that just tasted like you’re burning out some toxic stuff. It was a pain but it was awesome. I got  5 exercise points so not too bad.

Breakfast: After a crazy work out like that, some Chobani was in line. It was awesome some Kashi cereal. I also had a folded over Eggo Cinnamon Toast waffle with a little peanut butter. A pretty good 7 point dinner.

Lunch: While I working on my beastly research paper, I had my turkey sandwich with some grapes. Pretty good lunch! 5 points.

Starbucks: Today it was actually cold (like low 60’s) here today so I decided to grab a hot drink from the bucks. I had a tall chai tea latte but I forgot to say nonfat. So lame and epic fail on my part. So instead of having a good drink, I had a 16 ounce 450 calorie bombshell and just ended up gassy. (TMI? Get over it.) 5 points

Snack: during my class, a student brought spring rolls for everyone. She was  too sweet not to have one (some people are just too nice not to take food from.) It was great and 4 points.

Dinner: We had Subway for dinner. Awesome.  11 points

So today I’m at 32 points and with the exercise points I’m good. See ya tomorrow.

Day 188: 30th Weigh In

Howdy!

So this week’s weigh in did not goes as planned. On Friday, I was stupid and I weighed in the morning to see how I was doing for the week and I was down to 278. Now I know what you are thinking “Nathan, you shouldn’t do that! It’s  bad for you…. other stuff” Well, if you read my blog, you would know it’s an issue I have and I need to stop some how. I thought if I weighed it would help me stay good during the weekend. Instead, I rationalized a lot of stuff and I paid dearly. This week I lost .2 pounds which is pitiful. I know most of that is retained water, but it’s still really frustrating to me. I should have stayed off the scale and kept on guard and I would be down at least 2 pounds. I’m just really mad at myself because I screwed myself over. What’s even worse is that I worked out hard both of the days I went to the gym this week so I feel like that went down the drain. I hate learning experiences.

Breakfast: didn’t eat it. Not because of the weight loss, but I was just in a really bad funk this morning and frankly I was still full from last night (not a good sign.)

Lunch: As always, we were in a huge crunch for time today so we went to Panera for lunch since it was close to Publix. I did the Pick Two and had the sesame Asian chicken salad with broccoli and cheese soup. I know I know, I was clashing food cultures like a boss, but it was good all the same. When I got home and check up the nutritional facts, my meal had 8 grams of saturated fat and .5 grams of trans fats!!!!!! What the crap? Nothing pisses me off more than places that claim to be a healthy alternative and you have trans fats in your food! Panera, I don’t think we can be friends anymore. You make me sad. Lunch was 12 points.

Snack: After I went up to school to work on a take home test (yeah it doesn’t make any sense to me either) I had a Chobani to hold me over until dinner. Pomegranate, you are beautiful. 3 points.

Dinner: So for dinner we decided to try something a little different. A while back, we bought a tube of Gimme Lean veggie ground “beef” so from Publix so we made spaghetti and meatballs. The meat is really cheap and really low in points! Dinner was only 10 points with a spinach salad with grape tomatoes and balsamic vinegar.

Dessert: This evening, Megan made us strawberry shortcake with angel food cake. It was a great 3 points with fat free cool whip and fresh Florida strawberries. It went perfect with a cup of decaf coffee too!

So today I’m at 28 points which isn’t entirely a bad thing. I should have drank a little more water today but that’s how it goes. This week I’m going to work out more and try stay with in our points. Luckily, we have some awesome plans laid out which will make it a lot easier to avoid eating out. We’ll see how this goes. See ya tomorrow.

One more thing! Happy Birthday to my awesome blogging buddy Jennifer at A Girl Who Loves Cupcakes! You are a stud and it’s been awesome watching you progress in your weight loss journey. Keep up the awesome work.

Day 185: It’s Thursday Thursday Thursday!

Sup yall!

Sorry this post is late. I fell asleep watching basketball and watching my bracket have an aneurysm.

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich I think (it’s been a long day) 5.5 points

Lunch: I met up with my friend Andrea (AKA The Wolf) and her boss Jeanette for lunch at Roly Poly. We talked about social media and other fun stuff like that. It was my first social media consultation so to speak. I could totally do that for a living. Anyways, Roly Poly has a massive selection of sandwiches, soups and salads. I decided to have the Brown Derby salad with blue cheese, bacon, chicken, tomatoes and a spring mix with a honey mustard. It was so good. The salad was about 12 points which was high but delicious. So worth it.

Exercise: After class where we talked about Rebecca Black’s Friday Song, I went over to Leach to workout. Since Tuesday, I’ve been jonesin’ for another really sweaty cardio workout. I guess it’s been a while since I have just drenched my shirt and I miss that. Anyways, I did another 35 minutes on the elliptical which was beastly but fun. The program I did involved going backwards for like 75% of the time which made it all the more interesting. Fun stuff.

Dinner: Megan and I split a Kashi Mediterranean pizza which was really really really good. Half of the pizza was 9 points. It wasn’t supper filling, but it would have been better with a salad or a side like that.

Dessert: We had a BOGO for Nuberri (holla!) so we went there for some FroYo (yeah, I said FroYo.) They had this awesome Caramel Frappe yogurt which tasted exactly like the Caramel Frappacino (which I haven’t had in a long time.) Anyways, I had some of that with a little Health and Andes Mint. It was about 5 points.

Snack: I had some cocoa dusted almonds for 4 points.

Today I got to 35.5 points but with the exercise points I’m good. Awesome. See ya tomorrow.

Day 181: Weigh In Day!!!!!!

Why Hello!

It’s been way too long since I have posted and for that I’m sorry. I have gotten a lot of guff (yes, I said guff) from people about missing two posts in a row and for that I thank you. I really appreciate the support and accountability this community provides. It is a key contributor to my success so far and with the century pound mark in sight, your support is appreciated now more than ever. So thanks for calling me out Matt DC. I know you were just giving me a hard time, but it meant more than you know. So this morning I got in the scale with low expectations. We had to eat out the majority of last week due to the insanity of our schedule (somehow this week is going to be more insane. What what!) Anyways, for the few posts I did have, you saw the cheesey goodness that I consumed in mass proportions so I was just hoping to at least maintain (it would have been gained if I hadn’t worked out.) Well, my metabolism must be better than I think. I lost 2.2 pounds! Pretty awesome stuff!!! I am sooooo close to being in the 270’s now. I weigh 280.4 so super duper close. So with this week’s loss, I am 23.4 pounds away from 100 pounds. It’s getting there! Like I said this week is going to be bonkers, but we are going to be smarter with meals so 270’s: see ya soon!

Breakfast: So I made two packets of double fiber oatmeal but had it in the microwave too long. It always feels like when you make two packets, it either has the consistency of snot, or it blows up and gets all over the microwave. Well… the latter happened, and a large portion of my oatmeal was everywhere. (No, I did not eat the oatmeal shrapnel left in the microwave.) It was about 5 points worth of oatmeal. Yumtastic.

Lunch: After church, we needed to eat somewhere pretty fast so Megan could meet up with her friends for their study marathon. We ended up going to the Panera next to our house. Panera’s food is deceiving because you expect it to be healthy since it’s fresh but then it’s more points/calories than you hope. Regardless, it’s delicious so we still go there :). I had the half asain sesame chicken salad and half a Mediterranean veggie sandwich. It was really good and the salad was huge for just being half a salad. For the salad, the sandwich and the yummy baguette, it was 14 points. Not bad for how good it tastes.

Snack: While I was studying, I had 3 points of pretzels. That’s 30 pretzels. Holy cow.

Dinner: So this was a little different. While Megan was studying with our friend Catherine, I was at my small group and they had gotten dinner. By the time I was done it was 9:00 so I was starving. Megan texted my with news of leftover Chinese so I headed over there. I had Megan’s left over orange chicken with rice and an egg roll. I was good at the time. It took me back to my favorite super cheap Chinese place in Abilene where you could get a mountain of food for about $4. While the savoring moment lasted for a while, I still have the sodium taste in my mouth as I’m writing this. Not good. So it was high in points, and I have no real way of figuring it out, but here is what I know: I’m not the same guy I used to be. A meal like this was what I ate at least 3 times a week and it didn’t phase me at all. Tonight, I tried to go back to my old self and it wasn’t near as good as I remember. That’s so encouraging to me. To me it means that it would take a lot to get back to where I was, and that’s how I want it.

Snack: We went to Publix to get some groceries including watermelon and Cinnamon Toast Eggos which I have never had. They were delicious and  2 points.

So today wasn’t the best, but I have learned from my mistakes and I plan to work hard this week to lose a good chunk of weight. It’s going to be an interesting week. Bring it on. See ya tomorrow.

FSU WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEET 16 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 178: St Paddy’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

I hope your day was filled with Lucky Charms and other foods full of toxic green dye in them. Ours was busy, like the rest of this week has been. It’s just been nuts this week! I don’t feel like we have been home at all… because we haven’t. Sadly, there is no end in sight to this madness! Awe well, it’s how it goes. Alright, let’s talk food yo!

Breakfast: I thought I would change up my breakfast routine a little bit today. I had a cup of Pomegranate Chobani with 1/4 cup of Kashi Berry Crunch. It was pretty good, but the dried berries in the thick Greek yogurt was hard to chew. A little weird, but still a really filling breakfast! It was only 4 points too so not bad.

Exercise: I got the gym at around 9 this morning and it was a ghost town! Usually, it’s pretty busy but not completely packed. (I’m sure it had nothing to do with the bars in Tallahassee opening as early as 6 AM this morning.) Anyways, I had pretty much full range of the joint which was a nice change so I worked on my arms and core. I did a lot of what Kyle showed me last week but I didn’t push myself as hard as I should have. I’ve gotten a little lethargic in my workouts which bothers me. I think I really need to start working out with a personal trainer to pick back up some momentum. Regardless, I got a really good sweat going and despite playing soft rock throughout the gym, it was a good hour workout. 1o exercise points.

After-Exercise Breakfast: FSU has this awesome free standing Starbucks in the middle of campus with plenty of chairs on their deck so I decided to get some breakfast and just relax. I had their oatmeal with brown sugar and a Venti green tea (I mean… it is St. Paddy’s Day!) It was a really good but I was shocked when I figured out the ice tea was 3 points, as much as the oatmeal. That’s a little strange. Either way, it was a 6 point after workout breakfast.

Lunch: Since every Thursday our Campus Minister Adam comes up to campus to have lunch with us, I suggested one week we have a picnic on Landis Green, this big open field with beautiful old trees with Spanish moss draping down from them (I love Florida.) Anyways, today was perfect for a picnic! It was warm and not a cloud in the sky. Adam and Crystal provided the sandwich fixins for us so I just had a turkey with mustard on wheat. It was about a 5 point sandwich. So not too bad. Then we threw a frisbee around so it was a great afternoon!

Snack: When I got home from my class and slowly watched my NCAA bracket slowly deteriorate, I made myself a veggie chicken sandwich on an English Muffin. Pretty awesome 3 point snack. Then, I had 2 points of pretzels with some mustard for dipping. The pretzels really held me over until dinner!

Dinner: In honor of St. Paddy’s Day, Earth Fare had their Hot and Salad Bar half off today! (It’s usually $7.99/pound! Score!) It was no surprise when we got there and they had some amazing stuff. I had the following awesome items: Guinness Stew, Vegetarian Stuffed Cabbage Roll, Cod, and Sausage with Peppers. Then I had a baby spinach salad with a artichoke hearts, a little cheese and a roasted red pepper vinaigrette (I didn’t really eat the egg.) It was a great dinner that was a little overindulgent but delicious nonetheless.

Snack: While we were watching this week’s episode of Biggest Loser on demand, I had 2 points worth of popcorn. Good stuff.

So today I got to 22 points without being really sure of what dinner was. I also had the 10 exercise points so I was probably in the clear. I feel like I used up all my weekly points on last night. If you recall from the pictures, we at at this awesome Italian restaurant called Bella Bella. We were in a pinch for time so we went there just to try it out. Now this week has been particularly busy and with the time change, we have both been really thrown off the rhythm we had before Spring Break. So we go in and the waitress suggests we try the Bubble Bread appetizer. We just thought it was going to be some special made bread; instead it was cheese bread with a schlacking of garlic butter under the cheese. It was heavenly. Instead of having a salad with my dinner, I have clam chowder. Then for dinner I had their Sicilian Lasagna with sausage and other wrong things. I ate most of it, but I still removed the thick layer of ricotta to try to ease the pain. I’m not gonna lie, I was having a crappy day, and some unhealthy food was the only thing that was going to do it for me. Did it make my day any better? Not enough to offset how hard I’m going to have to work out the rest of this week to avoid a gain. I was talking to Megan and I was going to say  “it’s been one of those weeks that the food is just not what it needs to be” but all that came out was “it’s been a week,

Day 177: Wordless Wednesday Fantastico!
