Day 175: The Monday After

I hate Daylight Savings like cats hate dogs, republicans hate democrats, and like the Grinch hates Christmas only if he didn’t find out the true meaning of Christmas and instead realized how commercialized it was, making him more jaded and hate filled. Of course, around midnight last night I was all chipper and awake goofing around on the Interwebs. Then I realized “oh crap I need to go to bed!” and I still stayed up a little longer. I didn’t sleep well and then woke up at 5:30 to go to the gym and I was waaaaaay too tired so I stayed in bed. (Even now, I know I need to go to bed yet I’m still up. This is frustrating.) Anyways, let’s talk food.

Breakfast: I had a bowl of Kashi Berry Crisp with skim milk. It was insanely delicious since I haven’t had it in a while. 4 points.

Lunch: I got up to the Capitol a little early today, so I sat outside to eat my lunch. I bought another Hummus and Pretzel combo pack but this time with red pepper hummus. The hummus was really creamy and the pretzel to hummus ratio was a bit off so I was left with too much hummus and not a utensil to get it in my mouth. Sad days. (Speaking of sad days, sorry this picture is horrendously out of focus.) It was only 8 points.

Snack: After I got home, I had some pretzels to hold me over until dinner. Pretzels are awesome because they fill you up so much for a small amount of points. I had 3 points worth.

Dinner: We met up with our friends Daniel and Leah at Cabo’s for dinner. It’s a great place because they have a lot of healthy options  along with burgers and other delicious things. Megan and I split the Verde Enchiladas and got an extra cup of black beans. We use to share a lot but then got out of the habit. It really does save you money and points. Plus, we got chips and salsa (the best in town I might add) so it supplemented the meal a little more even though it didn’t really need it.  It was a great about 12 point meal.

Workout: When I got home, I fended off working by doing a little Wii Fit. My hip flexors were really tight from sitting all day so it was good to do some yoga and other fun stuff. I did a 40 minute circuit with a hodge podge of activities.

So today I got to about 27 points which is under but I might be wrong on the dinner so I’m in the clear. See ya tomorrow.

One more thing! Has anyone tried to grind their own peanut butter or almonds? I’m trying to figure out a way to do it at home. I have a Ninja blender and a coffee grinder. Let me know!

Day 174: Weigh In

Howdy!

It’s been a great Sunday. You could say it was “WINNING!” Church this morning was particularly awesome and then we headed out to St. George Island to meet up with some friends to savor the last hours of Spring Break on the beach. It was windy, but the water was warm enough to swim and the it was a beautiful emerald. (I love Florida.) Anyways, I didn’t sleep well last night due to a combination of worrying about the weigh in and the fear of waking up late because of Daylight Savings. I was anxious to see if the week was better than I thought it was. It turned out alright! I was lying in bed when I heard Megan yell through the house “Nathan! I lost 2 pounds!” I’m so proud of her! She’s lost a total of 35 pounds! I’m so proud of her and she’s lookin’ fine! Then it was my turn. I stepped on and I got a pleasant surprise: I lost 2.9 pounds! Holla! I’m really stoked because it could have went either way. So since September 14th, my first post (almost 6 months to the day) I have lost 74.4 pounds and since I’m now at 282.6, I’m shooting to break 280 this week. It’s been a tough road to ho, but the hard work has really paid off and I thank you all for your awesome support. For those who read this blog and want to start their weight loss journey but a nervous, I challenge you this week to try a few simple changes. Drink water instead of Dr. Pepper, take the stairs instead of the elevator (4 floors is not that bad!) take a walk around your block, and really think about what you are eating. Try these small steps and see how you feel at the end of the week. These little steps are the ones that will make the difference and will ultimately set you on the path of your weight loss journey. Seriously, what do you got to lose?

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich which was awesome (as always) and 5.5 points. After service when we were trying to race out of church, I snagged a left over muffin that Crystal made. It was so good and about 3 points.

Snack: We had to run to Walmart to get some essentials (diet coke and $3 thug sunglasses) and I got a big bag of pretzels to hold us over. Through out the day I ate about 4 points of pretzels. That was 40 pretzels too!

Lunch: I was really really really ready to get to the beach so we ran in to a Subway in Crawfordville and got the Megan Classic Ham on Wheat. 8 points. (Please note the thug $3 glasses)

Dinner: After a hard day of beach bummin’ it up, we all headed back and got some dinner. We stopped at this place called The Pit that had a carnivorous pig on the sign. I was thinking it was going to be BBQ, but it ended up being this awesome hole in the wall grill. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi with a salad and a baked potato with a little butter. (The oysters on the half shell really looked awesome so I’ll have to get those next time.) As you can see, it was a huge chunk of fish and the salad was really good too. It was only about a 8 point dinner which is awesome.

Dinner: We had a 15 bean soup slow cooking at our house so I had a 3 point bowl. It’s awesome and Megan put the pot in some containers so we are set for lunches this week (Spoiler Alert!)

So today I got to 31.5 points which is awesome. I ate pretty well and had a blast today. It’s been a good day. Now back to reality. See ya tomorrow.

Day 173: Saturday

Sup yo!

Without further adieu, food time.

Breakfast: Yesterday, I bought some almond butter just to see what it was like and it’s soooooooo awesome! (but expensive) I tried to make a wafflewich with almond butter. It was as awesome as I imagined. 6 points of awesomeness (I’m trying to see how many times I could put awesome in a paragraph.)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Lunch: I just actually had leftover for lunch. It was so good last night I had to have it again. Pretty great stuff. 8 points.

Temptation! So we went to Starbucks in the mall since Megan was getting her hair did. If you don’t know, Starbucks had a promotion this week when if you bought a drink you got a free dessert that was under 200 calories. So I ordered my 3 point drink and the Baristaette asked if I wanted one “No, thank you” “Are you sure?” the Temptress replied “They are really good!” “No, that’s okay” “Come on!” “NO” I finally resisted and got out of the line. I don’t know why people think it’s a responsibility to eat free food. I know that they are just trying to promote a new product, but I don’t think you should force people to eat their free product if they don’t want it. The issue is we are always trying to get our money’s worth even if we don’t want it. That was always my problem especially with Chinese All You Can Eat Buffets. That’s still a struggle for me today.

Dinner: I had another slice of pizza for dinner (pizza twice in one day!?! Alright! Double Prizes!) but this time with a humongous salad with grape tomatoes, baby spinach, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was awesome all three meals. Oh, and 9 points.
Exercise: After dinner, it was Wii Fit time! I hadn’t played in a while so it was definitely overdue. I did a 40 minute circuit with yoga and all the fun stuff. The yoga is definitely getting easier and I’m not wishing for death halfway through. Good stuff. 5 exercise points

Snack: I had another almond butter wafflewich for a snack. Good again. 6 points

So basically it was a Noah’s Ark of a food day (2 by 2? Get it? Anyone?) Today I got to 32 points but with the exercise points I’m good. Tomorrow is another weigh in that could really go either way. I have no clue if I’ve lost this week. Being home the whole time was a little harder than I thought and I didn’t work out as much as I should because after Monday’s beast workout with Kyle I was exhausted and super sore. We’ll see how it goes. Luckily this week I had some great non-scale victories which are more important than losing a lot. See ya tomorrow.

Day 167: Redemption Weigh In Day

I’m so sorry this post was so late. We’ve been hanging out with folks all day which has been a blast.

When I woke up, it felt like Christmas morning: I was anxious to just see what was under the tree good or bad because that way I would just know. I got some pretty exciting news! I lost 5.5 pounds this week! That made up for last week’s gain and then some! Basically I lost 2.5 pounds (I guess that’s how that works?) Anyways, what makes this week even cooler is that with this beast of a loss, I have lost 71.5 pounds and I have lost 20% of my body weight! I’m a four-fifths of the man I use to be! Pretty awesome weigh in day for sure; I’m even more excited to see how next weeks will be with so much time to work out this week. It should be a good one!

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich with the other half of yesterday’s banana. I was 6.5 points of deliciousness.

Snack: Between class and service, I had 2 points worth of almonds and I’m really glad I did…. read on.

Lunch: So after service, the college group and the young professionals all went to lunch at Red Elephant which is known for their pizza but they have a bunch of different stuff. Anyways, we had a reservation for 1:00 and we didn’t get seated until 2:00; oh yeah, it was in the 50’s today in Tallahassee and we had to sit outside! Lametastic! We finally got our table and when I had been looking at the menu I really wanted something that was hot and just hearty. So I had a salad… (I can see the confuse look on your face.) I had their Oriental Salad with Seared Tuna and Soy and Ginger dressing on the side. I was really impressed. The tuna was perfect and the oranges and pineapple were a really nice touch. It was a great salad that I would like to go back and get. They don’t have their nutritional info online (even though they advertise 550 calorie meals. You obviously know at least some of the nutritional info!!!!!!!!!) but I figured it out to be about 10 points?

Snack: We went home for a little bit after lunch just to relax until we were going to hang out with people again so I had a 6 point bowl of Kashi cereal while watching Season One of Boy Meets World (which is awesome.)

Dinner: Shortly after my snack, I had a ginormous 5 point slice of leftover lasagna which was good as always.

Snack: I had about 5 points worth of snacks which isn’t that bad considering we were over at our Campus Minister’s house until midnight. Most of those 5 points was from this awesome brownie that Crystal had made. The rest is some popcorn and some grapes. Usually I’m always tempted to eat a second anything be it cookie or whatever but tonight it didn’t even cross my mind.

So today I got to about 34.5 points which is okay with me. I ate pretty well and that’s what flex points are for. Plus, we are going to cook at home a lot this week so I’ll keep within my points pretty well. Also, while we were at their house I sat on a exercise ball for more than a hour and in that time I did leg raises on it (which were hard!) I’m sure there are some exercise points in there but I would try to justify it 🙂 See ya tomorrow.

Day 166: Spring Break Saturday!

Why hello there!

I hope everyone had a great Saturday (and Friday… my bad.) I can summarize how my Friday was with a haiku  lieu of a blog post:

Not much food in day

Hit by racquetball a lot

Snacked too much in night

I woke up this morning and decided to weigh to see where I was at and I was up from 285.5 on friday morning to 291 this morning! What the crap!?! I really really really really really really really need to stop weighing constantly. It’s become this addiction which I know is really unhealthy. I know that the number isn’t what matter as much. I’m not going to fall below some red line or get voted out by some toolbags on the Red team because I use to be on the Black team just because I didn’t lose enough. I need to be okay with the ebb and flow of this journey and that’s been hard. With that said, I had a NSV today that made whatever the scale says tomorrow moot. (If I were you I would keep reading.)

Breakfast: I went the “eat six small meals” route today to really kick start my metabolism. When I was working on my morning internship duties, I just had a Nature Valley Oats n’ Honey bar pack for 4 points. I think that was the last one I’ll have in a while. I’m getting burnt out on them.

Mid Morning Snack: I decided to make a wafflewich around 10:00 so I could hold myself over until lunch. I did it the right way (aka the way A Girl Who Loves Cupcakes (you really need to check out her awesome blog!!!!) makes them) with half a banana. It was delectable and really filling. Not a bad 6.5 point morning snack.

Non Scale Victory! So if you follow me on either Facebook or Twitter, you may recall I said I turned the clock back to 1999 today. Well here’s why… We went to Old Navy to pick up some cheap flip flops (an American summer tradition) and just to look around. The last time I bought jeans from Old Navy was 1999. After then, I couldn’t really fit into their pants (you know… the obesity thing) but today I found a pair of jeans and a pair of  brown pants that fit perfect! So I bought them! And they were on sale! I really never thought I would ever be able to buy pants from a non Big and Tall section ever again back before I started this thing so this was a really big (or little) day for me and it made me realize that even if the scale is moving at a snail’s pace, I’m still making awesome strides and obviously my body is changing. Pretty awesome revelation.

Lunch: After our escapade to ON, we went to Subway. I had the Megan Special which is Black Forest Ham and other awesome things on Whole Grain bread. It was 8 points of yumtasticness.

Snack: I had an apple and some chocolate covered coffee beans because they are awesome; so that was my afternoon snack. 2 points.

Dinner: As part of our dinner and a movie, we decided to make one of our favorite meals together that we haven’t made since we lived in our shoebox of an apartment in Abilene. We made Veggie Lasagna out of the Taste of Home cookbook. It was amazing beyond belief. All it is is lasagna with carrots, peppers, onions and zucchini. It takes a while to make, but you can eat off of it for days. I had 2 ginormous slices with a big ol’ salad with basalmic vinegar and a tsp of olive oil. It was a great meal. We haven’t had a nice sit-down meal at home in a while so it was a special dinner for us. (We are going to go see the Adjustment Bureau tonight. I’ll review it tomorrow.) Oh yeah, dinner was 11 points.

So overall I got to 31.5 points which is fine with me. So as you’ve read, the scale is becoming my enemy (which is one of my no-no’s) since Mr. Scale has been kind of a tool lately. Although I’m a little worried about tomorrow, I’m in a zen state of whatever happens happens. Bring it on Mr. Scale, I want to be your friend, but right now you’re that friend who doesn’t return my calls. See ya tomorrow.

Day 157: Thursday Hooray!

The week is almost over (thank goodness) and we are almost a week away from Spring Break. So close, yet so far. Anyways, today wasn’t that bad. I’m just ready for this semester to be over with. It’s been beastly.

Breakfast: Wafflewich. The best in the west. 4 points.

Lunch: We met up and ate at Pitaria for some lunch. Luckily, they had their awesome creamy vegetable soup today. So we both did that and split an order of hummus. It was great and about a 10 point lunch.

Snack: I had a Kashi bar of awesomeness for 2 points.

Breakfast: So I met up with some people (shout out to Andrea and Quinten what what!) for a group project around 5:30 so we went to Panera. When I got there, I had the dropsies really bad so going there might not have been the best choice. I wanted to dominated their pastries. Instead, I got a plain bagel. No bueno. It was 6 points completely dry. That’s more than a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Fail. Anyways, to add insult to injury, I spilled coffee all over my hand Old-Lady-From-McDonald’s style. That sucked, however the coffee was good and we got a ton done! (Take the bad with the good right?)

Dinner: By the time we were done at Panera I was starving so Megan and I decided to hit Chipotle in its awesome glory. I went with the Vegetarian Bowl with guac and sour cream on the side. It was a pretty awesome meal and 16 points. Pretty awesome stuff.

Today wasn’t the best day but it’s how it works. I got up to 38 points. Should have skipped on the bagel but awe well. See ya tomorrow.

Day 156: Wordless Wednesday!

Enjoy.. Even though it’s not that great.

Day 154: Special Monday Weigh In Day!

So last week I was in a bit of a rut. I was just getting bored with what I ate and stuff like that. But I think this weekend with little control of the meals and portions jump started my rut. I came home ready to eat healthy and just live better. I had no clue how this week’s weigh in was going to be so when I got on the scale and found out I lost 3.6 pounds I was so stoked! I couldn’t believe but that’s just how it works. So I’m finally in the 280’s at 288 and I have lost a total of 69 pounds. Pretty insane stuff. Alright, food time.

Breakfast: I had my classic 4.5 point wafflewich which was just amazing. Gotta love your favorite breakfast.

Lunch: I didn’t have time to take a pic but I wish I would have. I put a veggie chicken patty on an English muffin. Basically, it was a light Chick-Fil-A sandwich. I really enjoyed it… even though I made and ate lunch in about 3 minutes today. It was only 3 points.

Snack: I brought a snack for around 3:00 when I get hungry, but I was just too hungry not to eat it. It was a Kashi granola bar with black cherry and dark chocolates. It was really good and 2 points.

Snack: After work, I had to have something before dinner. I had a bowl of Kashi Berry crunch which was only 4 points of awesomeness.

Dinner: Megan tried to make this fried rice for dinner and it was awesome. We bought these Uncle Ben’s microwave-in-the-bag so we added that to some peppers and onions and a scrambled egg. I was really impressed. It was 8 points which isn’t too bad.

Snack: I had another Kashi bar. 2 points

Dessert: Megan tried to make this new dessert that I just loved. She cut open an acorn squash and put it in the oven with butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It was cooked perfectly which really made the difference. A good little 3 point dessert.

So today I got to 26.5 points but I might have forgotten something in there. Either way, it’s good to be back. See ya tomorrow.

Day 146: Weigh In Day Round 24!

I thought you were suppose to get rest on the weekends? Awe well.

So yesterday, I was really stressing about this weigh in. I wasn’t really sure how it was going to go. I hadn’t eaten anything too bad (except for the falafel salad which might have been okay without all the olive oil) but I just felt blah a lot of the week. Anyways, after a killer workout last night, I felt a little better about the whole thing and all in all it worked out AOK. I lost 1.4 pounds this week! I was relieved and pretty stoked. Like I said last night, each week, I’m breaking records for how much I’ve weighed in my adult life so it’s a win-win. I’m officially down to 291.6! So legit!!!!!!!!!![insert more exclamation marks here.] I’m really ready to get out of the 290’s and I’m really close. Here’s hoping for next week…

Breakfast: I have a bowl of Kashi blueberry flakes with milk since I’m out of waffles (I wonder why…. oh yeah I eat them every day.) 4 points.

Snack: After church, I was pretty hungry and since lunch was going to take a little bit, I had 3 points of those Boulder Canyon Rice Chips which are just awesome.

Lunch: Megan whipped up some mashed potatoes and carrots with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon on them (which might sound weird but is awesome) to serve with our Veggie Chicken patties. I cut mine up into tender like fashion (but they ended up looking like fish sticks but delicious nonetheless) and ate it with some ketchup. It turned out to be a pretty good lunch and only 6 points.

Snack: Throughout the day, I snacked on 1 point worth of chocolate espresso beans (7 of them equal a point.) I was pressed for time before my evening bible study so I had a cut up apple with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. It really held me over and 6 points.

Dinner: One of our friends Christian has this awesome Wikidot site called Christian’s Magical Recipes that has all of these fantastic vegetarian dishes so we tried his Butternut Squash Curry Soup recipe. I had this soup at a soup party Megan’s department had last semester and it was awesome so my expectations were high. Megan delivered and it turned out really well. A bowl like this was about 5 points, but I had some of Megan’s… and then cleaned out the pot with a laddle (not proud but it was worth it. Also, there wasn’t that much left.) So I had about 8 points worth of soup.

So today I just got to 28 points which is fine. I wasn’t emaciated or anything throughout the day so that will work.

It’s a new week. Make the most of it. See ya tomorrow.
