Day 942: Tuesday Weigh In

To quote Tony Kornheiser on the day of the Virginia Tech shooting “now, we have to awkwardly transition in to the rest of the news…”

Today was still a hard day. There is obviously still a lot of hurt out there. Time will heal the pain, but for now, we will move forward and support our friends however we can. Whether it’s wearing a racing shirt today or running a race to support our fellow runners through a run on Sunday, do what you can.

So now moving on to something that frankly just seems relatively insignificant right now.
On Monday morning, I was down to 222.2 pounds which was the lowest number I had ever seen on the scale. I was hoping to see that today, but the stress and the sodium of yesterday took its toll. I had a no gain today. Back to where I was yesterday. It is what it is. You deal and move on. Either way, I’m still securely in the 220’s which is still insane. It’s taken a long time to get here so I’m still happy with it.

Today was our pseudo-splurge day. We ate our share of delicious Indian and I had lunch with The Wolf and Phil today as well. Pretty delicious day. Tomorrow is back to business. At this point I’m on good track for 30 in 90 with 58 days to go. Pretty stoked to see how it goes. See ya tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I got a temporary TARDIS tattoo from Alt*Con this weekend…because I’m 7…and awesome.

Day 941: Rough Day

It’s been a rough day.
The plan was to talk about how awesome it was to follow the race on Twitter and how you could track your favorite runner down to a mile or so just with their bib number. But that has all changed now.

I have a lot to say about today both as a runner and as a media specialist, but that’s going to wait. There will be a time and place for that, just not now.

The Boston Marathon is a relatively new bucket list item for me. For years, the idea of even running a half marathon seemed impossible. I remember when I was obese listening to my friends Spencer and Tim talk about running a marathon in DFW. All I could think was “man…I bet that’s cool. It’s too bad that will never happen for me.” Now, running a marathon is a plausible goal in my life. And maybe I will qualify for the Boston Marathon one day. Even after the horrific events of today, I will still strive to cross that race off my bucket list. Not just for myself, but for those innocent runners who had their limbs amputated today because they were doing what they love, and to take the power away from the terrorists who planted these bombs to strike fear.

I know that some good will come out of this situation because it always does. The human spirit is too amazing for there not to be. Whether it’s an amputee runner completing the Marathon again years later or stories of heroic acts by Boston’s finest, good will conquer. But tonight, we mourn. We pray. We hold our loved ones close and tell them that we love them.

Good night.

Day 935: Welcome to Weigh-In Day!

I’M ALIVE!!!!!!!!

My awful bronchopneumonia (yeah…that’s what I had) has finally subsided and I feel sooooo much better. Hooray for NyQuil and antibiotics!

So I didn’t really post my weigh in last week pseudo-unintentionally. Frankly, I wasn’t sure if it was going to “take”. You see, when I REALLY sick, I tend to drop weight pretty quickly (like the time I lost 9 pounds in 24 hours from the Great Flu Fiasco of 2011). I thought this was the same case. I was down to 226.6, which is was my lowest recorded weight. I had FINALLY gotten past the 227 threshold that I’ve been flirting with since this time last year, and I figured I would just go back to where I was.

Well…that wasn’t the case!!!

I stuck well within my points last week and I drank water like it was going out of style! I really didn’t exercise much since I was sick, but I did randomly run a 5k on Saturday which was awesometastic as well! Anyway, with all of that I got on the scale this morning and I did a double take I weigh 224.6 freakin’ pounds! I lost 2 pounds this week!!!! I cannot describe how much better I feel! I was wondering if I was ever going to get through that 227 barrier that really has been haunting me. (Oh yeah…I’ve lost 132.4 pounds since September 2010. WHAT UP!!!!!)

Today, I started to evaluate my weight loss journey so far and how things are going. Like a lot of people, after I broke through the 100-pound milestone, my weight loss start to slow down quite a bit. I thought I had hit a plateau (which was half true) but the other part of it was that I got complacent with the whole journey. I started to let some things slide. An extra piece of dessert here and there, that kind of stuff. The biggest thing was I kind of just stopped counting points for a long time. It was just getting strenuous. All I knew is that I wasn’t going to backtrack back to 357, but what happened instead was I just got stuck: first in the 240’s and then in the 230’s, which is where I have been for about a year now. I was dieting but not dieting. I wasn’t fully committed. Now, I’m back at it. I realized that if I wanted to see results, I have to be a lot more stringent than I ever have. I’m not depriving myself, I’m just actually tracking and being sensible (that’s why there’s weekly points.) Sure counting and configuring points does take some work, but when you just think of it in the context of just another step in your food prep, it makes it easier. So to summarize, I’m back, baby! And it feels great. Thank you all for being so awesome. Your support means much more than you ever know. Thanks for being awesome.

Now, in lieu of photos of food and things, here’s a Vine of me making delicious Healthy Cookies from Skinnytaste.

Enjoy!

Day 914: Tuesday Stuff

Hey boo!

I feel awesome. My body is saying “hey brah, thanks for treating me right again.” Yah, I had gained .6 pounds this week, but at one point I was all the way up to 236. I’m finally back down to 231.6. I am so ready to get out of the 230’s for good. It’s time. Like I said on my Facebook page today, the name of the game this week is “consistency.” I’m going to stay within my points, drink my water and then get all SAWStastic in the gym this week! Even if I don’t see it on the scale next Tuesday, I know I’m going to feel better. Totally worth it.

Here is the breakdown of the day points wise. As you can see I did really well!

B: 3
S: 2
L: 4
S: 4
D: 7
S: 4
S: 5
Activity: 6

I also went on my first run since the half. If I hadn’t done a rough leg workout yesterday, it would have been a lot better. Either way, it felt great to be back in the running game. I’ll leave you with this parting shot. It’s especially for all of you who are still shoveling snow. HA! See ya tomorrow.
