Day 437: Monday of Finals

Why hello there little fella… lost?

Well if you are lost and you have landed on this blog, welcome to the awesomeness!

So today was the first day of getting the train back on the rails so to speak. We figured finals would be a good time to get everything back in order and so far so good. However, I’ve already decided I need to change one of my resolutions from last night for 2012. One of my resolutions was to get in to the 180’s by the end of the year and I’ve decided to tweak that just a little bit. By December 31st, 2012, I want to be half the man I used to be. I want to have lost 50% of my body weight from when I started this journey in 2010. My official beginning weigh in weight was 357 whopping pounds even. So if you do simple math (which I can’t do. God invented calculators for a reason folks!) that means for me to have lost 50% that would mean I would be at 178.5 pounds. Not too much more than what I was looking at, but it gives me an actual goal to look ahead to and stay focused on. So with yesterday’s weigh in, I will have to lose 65.5 pounds in about 377 days. That’s plenty of time right? Like I said last night, this goal will have to align for this ultimate goal to be complete. Here goes nothing…

Breakfast: I woke up early so I could proctor a 7:30 am final (hooray) so I just had a banana to get me through. Then after the final, Megan met me up on campus at Einstein’s to have bagels and my favorite coffee in the world (seriously, their hazelnut vanilla coffee is the bomb. It will literally blow up in your mouth and shrapnel of deliciousness with demolish your tastebuds.) Anyways, I had an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was pretty good and it held me over pretty well.

Lunch: For lunch, I made microwaved a Chicken Suaza Smart One. Delicious, but nothing too exciting there. Just a good ol’ lunch. For dessert I had an orange.

Pre-Workout Snack: Before we headed over to Leach, I had a piece of toast with peanut butter. It was amazing. I also had some caramel rice cakes because they are awesome too.

Workout time!: Once again, I have made Leach my second home on campus. Even though we went during “rush hour” I was still able to snag one of the last working bikes to do about a 30 minute ride. For the longest time, I was scared of the bikes. The small seat hurt my large butt, and it wore me out. Now, my butt is fine (in more ways than one ;)) and it still wears me out, but the latter is okay with me. Like I said, I did a 30 minute ride and by the end of it I was soaked and my entire body hurt from my shoulders to my hips. I was just overall sore. It felt awesome. I can’t wait to get better at the bike so I can maybe get up the courage to try a 40 minute spin class at FSU. Anyone care to join me? Misery loves company…

After I got home I had another banana.

Dinner: Megan made some awesome chili for dinner. It was… well, awesome. Like yesterday with the mac n cheese, I was able to limit myself to just one bowl while being able to be content with what I had. My issues with seconds has always been that I just want to keep eating because it’s so good, not necessarily that I am still hungry. I’m finally learning how to handle that.

Dessert: So like I said a while back, I wanted y’all to call me out if I had toppings on my froyo the next time I go. Well, I think you’ll be pretty proud. Look mom! No toppings! Now I know what you might be thinking, and yes that is a waffle bowl. What I have found out is that if I use the waffle bowl as a delicious container, then I don’t get as much froyo overall. And since a waffle bowl that size is not that many calories, it totally makes it worth it. So judge if you must, but get over it.

Well that’s about it for today. I don’t have a final tomorrow, but I do on Wednesday morning at 7:30 am (WHO THE CRAP THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA? WHO IS UP AND FUNCTIONING THAT EARLY!?!) so I’ll be studying for that all day, along with some gym time in there to get the endorphins kicking. See ya tomorrow.

Day 424: Getting Back in to the Swing of Things Edition

So… sorry I didn’t report my weigh in yesterday. It was kind of an unusual day. There have been days where I haven’t blogged not necessarily because I’m a little ashamed of how I did, but it does play a factor in to whether I make it a priority that day. It’s a bad habit that I really need to drop because I know I have your support and love no matter what. It use to be that not blogging was not an option, and I need to be in that mindset in order to make this blog what I want it to be: an online diary/food journal where I can bounce ideas off of my homies and in turn hopefully inspire some people to make a positive change in their life.

Alright, so one of my goals this month was to not gain any weight over Thanksgiving. Last year, I lost a bunch like a boss. Well this year, I blew it out of the water 🙂 in a horrible way :(. I gained 8 pounds last week. We all have trigger foods, and this week I didn’t guard myself from them like I should have. On Sunday, I did mention that I ate small slices of pie, but those small slices still add up very quickly. I thought I was doing okay, but this proved to me that my issues with food are still real and apparent in my life. The weigh in on Monday was a wake up call, but it also scared me because I was kind of working without a net so to speak last week, and I failed miserably. All my life, I have been in eating extremes, I’m either doing really well and losing weight constantly or I’m eating wrong and gaining weight rapidly (i.e. all my life). I’m really worried about how I’m going to maintain when I meet my goal. As with everything though, I’m going to face this head beast head on and dominate.

Non Scale Victory: Last night, we put up the Christmas tree and although I feel really chunky this week, I have this to hang my hat on….

This was the old us from 2009. We still lived in Abilene, Texas in our 400 square foot apartment (I’m still not sure how I maneuvered in that apartment, but I remember it not going that well…) Anyways, As you can see, I was pretty huge and my life was just in a rough place on a lot of levels. I’m wearing a XXL sweater.

This was me in our new place in Tallahassee last year. I had just started our weight loss journey and I had just bought my first XL shirt well… ever.

This is me last night, about two years later. Rocking one of my first size Large shirts. There is a lot less chin and a lot less boob in this shot. I know this week has been rough, but this made me feel really good. Regardless, I have made great strides in the past two years. For some that feels like too much time to make such a change (I used to be one of them) but the time has flown by and I still feel much better than I did in that gray sweater and size 52 shorts.

The rest of this week is about getting my body back in to shape, not just physically, but also my mental relationship with food by telling myself it’s okay to be a little hungry and that grazing is a bad habit. Tomorrow, expect a picture of a points list of what I ate. Also, expect a video. See ya tomorrow.

Day 327: Monday Wagon Riding

Luckily, I started writing this during halftime of Monday Night Football. A man has his priorities.

Today was just a crazy day of craziness which usually entails a lot of snacking and binge eating. I was able to hold my ground today to maintain the momentum from last night. It was good to reexamine where I am in my weight loss journey. My struggle with food will always be there. It’s not like smoking where there is a patch to ease you off (what would a weight loss patch have in it? Olive oil? Splenda? Some of Jenny Craig’s Tears? Hmmmm) and eventually you are done with it. Eating is something you have to do everyday to survive so it’s an issue you face every meal. I’m not saying that if I stopped counting I would go off the deep end and end back up where I started, but that’s because I have this community that wouldn’t let me, but you can look back in my posts and the weigh in that week directly correlates with how I did with food and exercise that week. So anyways, today was a struggle emotionally, but I didn’t let my emotions bleed in to my eating habits, because gorging myself with food to feel good is no longer apart of me. The old me’s dead and gone… dead and gone. (TI is legit.)

Alright, where was I…

Breakfast: So this morning was a bit nutzo, but I was still able to have an awesome breakfast. I made a pb and banana toast sandwich with bread from Publix that doesn’t have an expiration date on it. (The mold growing inside the bag looked up at me and said it was okay to eat.) Breakfast was a filling and delicious 4 points.

Lunch? I had to run errands during a lunch break that I actually work during and since I hadn’t packed a lunch this morning (super fail on this schmucks part) I had a Nature Valley bar and a Diet Coke from the Circle K by campus. Plus I got to see my friend Lindsey so that was an added bonus. Anyways, it held off the hunger demons for a while until I could get off work. 4 points.

Snack: After I got home from work, I had a cup of mutligrain cheerios. They really tied me over. 2 points.

Dinner: So for the rest of the day when I was doing stuff around the house, all I could smell was the bean soup cooking in the kitchen and it was driving me crazy! So when it was done, we consumed, and it was good. 1/2 cup was only 2 points and so were the cornbread muffins so I had 18 points worth of dinner which sounds like alot (which it is) but considering I had only had 10 points up until that point, I was pretty hungry. It was a super awesome filling dinner.

SAWS! Today, we got back in to Insanity and it was a blast! (No! Really!) I did the Fit Test today and I did better on some, but stayed the same on other exercises. Megan thinks that it might be focusing more on form than the first day. I felt like I should have pushed myself a little more, but I still sweated like crazy. I’m going to go super SAWSIAN (the SAWS version of super sayian) tomorrow which is going to be rough. Hooray. 6 exercise points

After SAWS Snacking: I had a Clif Bar after my workout, and it was filling, but I need something to munch without the calories. Megan made some stove popped popcorn without any salt and it was the perfect snack where it feels like you’re eating something like chips while you’re eating something healthier instead. 8 points total.

So today I got to 36 points which means I ate my exercise points which will work of me. See ya tomorrow.

Day 324: Friday Stuff

Why yes, I am blogging on Friday! Awesome sauce.

Today was pretty awesome! Work was good (did I mention I love my internship at FSU?) and it was a blast cleaning out my closet. But we will get to that in a bit.

Breakfast: Megan does wonders with a crockpot, and this is one of those fantastic things. She made this awesome steel cut oats oatmeal with apples, cinnamon and some honey. It was so filling and just plain awesome.

Snack: While I was at work I had a Nature Valley bar. Classic.

Lunch: After work, Megan and I went with our friend Catherine (check out here epically awesome Youtube channel) to this awesome hole-in-the-wall place in Frenchtown called the 501 Cafe. It’s this unassuming brick building with bars on the windows, but on the inside it is decked out with Goodwill swag along with vintage FSU memorabilia. Megan and I both had the curried chicken sandwich. It was literally the best, most unique, sandwich my stomach has ever met. It was shredded chicken, curry powder, braised almonds, and raisins. I know you might think that the raisins sounded gross, but they were like a rug, they really held the sandwich together. (Big Lebowski? Any one?)

Anyways, for dessert the sandwich came with a bite size brownie. It was two bites, but two bites of deliciousness. Catherine, I owe you one for showing me this place.

NSV: So as you can imagine, I have a crapton of clothes that are way too big for my itty-bitty frame. Even though I was a biggin, I still had decent taste in clothing (a lot of Polo and dress shirts.) So I’m going to sell a lot of my clothes on eBay because they are beyond alteration (my wedding suit is a size 60, but I’m still hoping to alter it someday.) Anyways, it really helped me appreciate how far I have come along not just since last September when my change began, but since High School. I had dress shirts from h.s. that were sized 20 and pants sized 54’s. Back then, I dreamed of one day that I would lose the weight, I secretly knew/hoped it would, and it finally has. Pretty awesome stuff.

Dinner: For dinner, we went out to dinner with our brosky Daniel for his birthday. Megan and I got the chicken tacos, but we skipped on the sour cream and the guacamole and neither of us really missed it! They were really filling and between them and the free chips and salsa, we ate really well for under $8. Pretty awesome dinner.

Coffee: Megan was in a “coffee mood” so Daniel suggested Red Eye in midtown. We had never been there, but recently I’ve been disenchanted Starbucks so this might be my new place. I had a non-fat chai latte. It was the best chai latte I have ever had, really sweet and really flavorful. Pretty awesome stuff.

So today wasn’t terrible, I haven’t been really keeping up with my calories which makes me a little concerned about the scale on Sunday, but we will just see how it goes. See ya tomorrow.

Day 323: Thursday Day

What is up G?

So today was pretty good on all levels, yet it was one of those days that went on forever. That’s just how it goes. Anyways….

Breakfast: Before I went to work, Megan and I decided to go to Jim and Milt’s for some breakfast. They have a really cheap breakfast for $2.50  so we both had that along with some bacon. It was pretty fantastic. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the toast was magical along with the bacon, and the grits were good for being grits.

Snack: I had a Nature Valley bar pack. Pretty awesome stuff.

Lunch: After work, we decided to go over to Publix and got a mojo rotisserie chicken. It had a cajun seasoning rubbed all over and it was so juicy!!! Megan cut up some one of the breasts and we put it on a salad. We cut up a tomato that we got from the farmer’s market last weekend and then for a dressing we put a little olive oil and some of this new organic balsamic vinegar we got at Earth Fare. It was so delicious! To make it even better, we had some cherries for dessert.

SAWS!!!: So this was my new workout shirt and shorts that I got for my 100 pound victory. Insanity was really rough today because it was two workout sessions, Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs. The Pure Cardio session was 36 minutes and the Cardio Abs was only 18 minutes (I say only lightly.) It was the first time I had Cardio Abs and it delivered on it’s promise that I would never want to eat junk food again. It was mostly done in a plank position and in a situp-like position, however there were no situps or pushups in this part. I actually sweated through two shirts during this session today, both got to the point where they were just sopping wet. Anyways, to recuperate, I had a banana, some peanut butter and a waffle. It was the perfect after workout snack. SAWS!!!!!

Dinner: With the other bit of the white meat left on the rotisserie chicken, we cut it up and made chicken tacos of awesomeness. Like I said last night on the vlog, Mexican food has been a weakness because of sides like sour cream and guacamole. Today, I just put a little sour cream on there with a little guacamole. It was pretty awesome and super filling.

Dessert: After dinner, we went to TCBY for some froyo magic. One of the awesome flavors they have this week was root beer and it tasted exactly like a root beer float. It was pretty awesome. I did add some toppings, but I kept them in check.

So today wasn’t too bad like I said, but after the workout, my body felt just awesome. It’s such a great feeling when you can tell your body is happy with you. See ya tomorrow.

Day 317: Friday Funstuff!

It’s Friday, and that’s awesome. That’s all that needs to be said.

Breakfast: I went to work a little later so I actually had time to make some breakfast. I made a Denver-like omelet sandwich. It was really just a fried egg, two slices of ham and some cheese on two pieces of toast. So awesome. I also had some spicy ketchup for dipping. Again, so awesome.

Lunch: I didn’t get to have lunch until around 1:30 (I was super starving with a capital famished) but I had a sandwich, some cocoa dusted almonds and a banana. It was pretty awesome. Sack lunches FTW!

SAWS!!! I was going to do Insanity in the morning, but sleeping is way more enticing (as it always is) so I went straight to it after I got off work. Today was cardio recovery which sounds not as bad (which is what I thought) but it was more like super yoga. Stretching is so painful sometimes, and today was one of them. It felt good to get deep in to those stretches though. It’s one of those things if you just stick with the painful stretch a little past the pain, it feels fantastic!!! And as you can see, I was sweaty. SAWS!

Dinner: Megan made this awesome curry chicken with basmati rice. It was fantastic. It was probably the best Indian whatever it was (I think it was curry but I’m not sure.) I have ever had.

Dessert: Tonight we had a dessert and coffee night with the young professionals from our church. Everyone brought delicious awesome treats including a cookie cake from Great American Cookie that had the word “legit” frosted across it. Luckily, our great friend Sharon brought some fruit (she asked if that counted as a dessert and I was like TOTALLY!) so that really helped me with all the sweets. I did steal some caramel corn and these low fat cranberry bars Megan had made, but overall I held my own.

So today wasn’t that bad. It helps when you have a goal in mind for your weigh to keep on track. I’m shooting for an awesome Saturday. See ya tomorrow.

Day 316: Thursday Stuff

What it is yo?

Today, it’s been kind of hard not to jump on the scale and see where I’m at. Thursday is usually my day to take a sneak peak, but my trusty post-it note that said “DON’T STEP ON ME!” kept me at bay. The power of the post-it notes people, the power of post-it notes.

Breakfast: I went with the classic Wafflewich for breakfast. I was going to make bacon and eggs, but I just ran out of time. (Am I the only one where time speeds up 10x faster? So much fun!)

Snack: I was starving at work so I had a Nature Valley granola bar. Awesome as always.

Lunch: After work, Megan and I went over to Tijuana Flats since we had a BOGO coupon. It’s been a long time since we had been there so it was good to go back. They have a light option menu so I had the under 500 calorie chargrilled chicken burrito. We also got an order of chips and salsa (mine wasn’t suppose to come with chips but they gave me some anyway. Holla!) and it was the size of a bag of chips so we used them for dinner. For dessert I had some cherries.

SAWS!!!: I am back on the Insanity wagon since Leach is closed and today was a doozey! I did the Plyometric Cardio Circuit today. I think it’s my least favorite one (who am I kidding? I hate all of them.) but that’s probably because it pushes me the hardest. I’m not going to lie and say Insanity is easy, but man do I feel awesome after I’m done which makes it all totally worth it!

Dinner: I had a taco salad with leftover taco meat from last night, chips from lunch and some guacamole. It was freakin’ fantastic! There is nothing like eating a healthy and hearty dinner after a hard workout.

So today was a pretty good. I feel great, and I’m pumped to get through the rest of the week. See ya tomorrow.

(P.S. Have you checked out my Fotographing Fat Kid Facebook site?)

Day 304: Disney Recap Yo!

I’M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you miss me? Because oh me oh my did I miss y’all!!! It was a crazy week of vacationing awesomeness involving many miles walked, mounds of delicious food consumed and plenty of annoyed tourists. My family and us had a blast hanging out again and I miss them already. When Megan and I go to Disney, we usually don’t eat at too many of the restaurants, but since we were with my family we ate at all the awesome places. We also snacked a lot this trip as well which was good, but it meant that we needed to watch how much we ate.

Anyways, one advantage of Disney is you get your steps in. We walked 54.24 miles this week which was mostly done in flip flops (bad idea) and in high humidity (also a bad idea) so it didn’t quite offset our calories, but it helped I think. I’ll put up the pics on Wordless Wednesday so get stoked for that!

Breakfast: I had a waffle with some peanut butter and then we went over to my parent’s hotel and had some pretty good oatmeal. (Well… good for a hotel.)

Lunch: Before my parents headed out of town, we decided to hit up Jimmy Jonh’s for some subtastic awesomeness. I had the Beach Club which had turkey, sprouts, avocado spread (is that the same as guacamole?), and other great veggies. I should have held the mayo, but I forgot. Oops.

Dinner: We were planning on eating chili for dinner, but then were invited to Sonny’s for dinner. I had the Big Salad (yes… that’s what it’s called) with chargrilled chicken. I was going to have ranch dressing but Megan didn’t like her honey mustard so I traded with her. It was better on my salad so it worked out. I really liked the crasins with candied pecans on it. So awesome.

So today was a pretty good food day. I don’t know how weigh in day will go. I’m not going to lie, I did overindulge a lot on this trip, but we will just see how it goes. See ya tomorrow.
