Day 280: Tuesday Twinkle

(I’ve given up on the whole making creative titles thing. Welcome to Lameotown.)

Sup everyone! Today I slept for what felt like 10,000 hours because my knees were sunburned and my stomach hurt. Not a bueno situation yo. Anyways, it was another exciting day in Tallahassee, well not really. All that really happened was the Casey Anthony verdict and I wrote about it on the inaugural post of my other blog called Talking About Media so once you are done with this post, you should check it out and let me know what you think. (Yes, I am a blog lady of the night and I will turn tricks for my writings.)

Breakfast: I woke up a little late so I just had a cut up banana, PB and toast which was 3 points. At first I thought this breakfast was just 2.5 points but I forgot about the bread. So that’s that.

Lunch: So we had plans to eat at Chick-Fil-A for lunch because it was a fan frenzy day so it was going to be free. Well, when we got over there, the parking lot was super packed and the drive thru was queued up like a boss so it was logistically not possible to get in. I hate that CFA’s are on such small lots where the parking lot always has cars in it. I know it makes them look busy and successful, but that also deters folks like me. Just saying. Anyways, we ended up at Subway and I had a ham sandwich. It was okay, but definitely no CFA. The only upside to Subway was that there was a TCBY right next door. We decided to give it a shot and I’m really glad we did. It’s not a self serve joint, but their yogurt is low calorie, low fat, has fiber and active cultures in it, and best of all they offer a kids cup for everyone! We both had the White Chocolate Mousse and it was only 2 points for a big kids cup of froyo! Lunch was 10 points yo!

Snack: I had chips and salsa and before we worked out a bowl of Oatmeal Squares so my healthy snacking was a total of 7 points.

SAWS!!!: Megan and I decided to hit up the gym, and apparently so did the rest of FSU. Leach had been closed since Saturday so I guess everyone was there to make up for the weekend. I did a quick 30 minutes on the elliptical because we didn’t have a ton of time so I made good use of my time. While I was ellipticalin’ it up, I noticed all the obviously new freshman (I could tell by how much they looked like middle schoolers. Crap I’m old.) that were not wiping down the equipment after they were done. I would never call out someone nor am I a germaphobe, but it really grosses me out when it’s on cardio machines that induce a crapton of sweat. Grosstacity! Anyways, I got 6 exercise points.

Dinner: For dinner we had leftover chili which was fantabulous and a no pudge fudge brownie for dessert. It was awesome. 15 points.

So overall today I got to 35 points but with the exercise points I’m good! Tomorrow is session No. 2 of Couch to 5K so I’m super stoked for that. Also tomorrow is Wordless Wednesday so get super stoked for that too! See ya tomorrow.

Day 268: Travel Update

Howdy!

From the greeting, you might infer that I am in Texas (or I’m just bad at greetings) which would be correct. I am blogging live on location from the University of Texas at Austin. Growing up I was a huge Texas A&M fan so at first this was a little weird, but I got over it. Frankly in the caste system of colleges and college football, the University of Florida and Ohio State University are way lower on the proverbial totem pole than UT. (Oklahoma is down there too. What the crap is a Sooner anyway?)

Moving on… Megan is doing research on the composer Radie Britain (I don’t know who it is either) for her thesis so I am here as a research assistant/doing stuff on the Internet that doesn’t involve school because my brain still hurts from the semester.

Sorry it’s been a nutzo lack of blogging. Have you ever been on a vacation which actually involves a crapton of driving and stuff? That’s what this trip is. It’s still an awesome trip (We’re in Texas! How can it not be awesome?) but between my parents not having internet right now, free wireless is hard to find and late nights hanging out with friends, it’s been a challenge. However, the lack of blogging does not mean a lack of dieting. I have been working hard to keeping everything in check and so far it has worked. With traveling, there is a alot of eating out so I’ve been keeping that in mind. Since we are in Texas, we have been eating a alot of Mexican food and it has been awesome. I’m worried though that we are getting spoiled and we will be uber depressed when we go back to Tallahassee. Tonight we are going to eat at the best Bar B Que place in the state (no hyperbole, it’s been ranked as such by Texas Monthly) so I’m ready for that. They have an all you can eat option that I had one time and I remember eating so much that I got sick. I felt like I had to eat as much as possible and I felt disgusting after. That will not happen this time.

I have noticed that some old habits and instincts have come back since I’ve been in Texas. I want things to surround eating when I’ve suggested things to do. That used to be my thing which is why I gained so much weight. It’s just easier to get people to hang out with you if there is a plate of food involved. I think that’s just because we are here for a short amount of time so that’s the way to see a lot of people but it’s a slippery slope. Plus not to mention it’s been in the triple digits every day (except today… it’s a frigid 97) so it’s hard to be motivated to do something outside. I haven’t worked out as much as I have liked but I’m going to rectify that the rest of the trip. If I’m going to eat like I am, I need to balance it out a little better.

Anyways, so we are heading to Abilene on Friday for another wedding that I’m really stoked for. I’m going to see a lot of friends that I haven’t seen since we moved so it’s going to be a lot of fun to catch up with them.I’m going to be able to blog a little more the rest of the trip (I think) so I will keep you a little more updated. Either way when we get back I’ll have a complete recap of the trip with some funny anecdotes and such. Also, look for a wordless wednesday later tonight. See ya later.

Day 260:Tuesday Today!

No blog yesterday? Oops…

Sup yo!

Today has been a pretty awesome day. I had a big presentation for one of my classes and I survived without the teacher demolishing me with questions so that was helpful. Tomorrow I have one more presentation and I’ll be pretty much done! Hollaback girl!

Anyways, I’ve been to busy to go grocery shopping which has proven to be an issue. I’m running out of essentials so I am getting creative. It sucks because if you don’t have things like baby carrots, its hard not to eat something less filling and in turn more points. That’s really been my issue is that I’m eating things that aren’t as filling. I need to start working on that or I’m going to be in trouble.

Breakfast: For breakfast I was trying to make an ultimate breakfast sandwich and I think I succeeded. I cooked an egg white, microwaved two fake hot and spicy sausage patties, and a slice of cheese and put it on toast. It was beastly delicious and 6 points.

Lunch: I had some leftover spaghetti-o’s and grilled cheese sandwich. Nothing much to that lunch but it doesn’t negate its awesomeness. 6 points.

I then had 2 points of the Quakers choco choco chip rice thins (does anyone get that reference?)

Dinner: I just realized I didn’t really eat dinner. I guess it was the 5 steamed dumplings I had at 4:00. 5 points.

Exercise: Our college group had a poolside devo (hey.. this is Florida) and then swam after. I was in the pool for the better part of 2 hours and I was active for the majority of it. My friend Jonathan was out of the pool and he was throwing passes to me so I was running in the shallow end which is good exercise. We all had a blast.

Dessert: So after the pool we went to Yogurt Mountain for some lactose awesomeness. I had cookies n’ cream with some toppings. I didn’t get near as much this time so that really helped. I wasn’t sick after so that’s always a win. 4 points. (BTW the pink things are frosted animal crackers. Best decision since LeBron took his talents to South Beach (oh wait… sorry bad example.) #MiamiHeatGotBurned (that’s right, I just put a hashtag in my blog. I do what I want!)

Snack: I eluded to baby carrots earlier and here’s why. I have one more 100 calorie pack of Wholly Guacamole and if I eat it with carrots, it’s only 2 points. Unfortunately, we have Cape Cod chips and not only is that combo gross, the points would go up. What’s a boy to do? So, instead I had a bowl of popcorn which worked, but carrots and guac sounded more filling and better. Awe well. 3 points

So today I got to 26 points? Hmm….. I’m not sure if that is right, but I think it is. O….kay. See ya tomorrow.

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY!!!!!!

Day 237: First SAWS Weigh In Day!

SAWS!!!!

How’s it going everybody! Sorry for that whole not blogging thing yesterday. To summarize Saturday: Wii Fit, Wedding Singing, Workout, burned more than 700 calories. Tada, there was yesterday’s post. Okay, now that that is out of the way. Today was the first post-SAWS weigh in day and I was hoping for a loss of around 2-3 pounds if not better. So you can understand my disappointment when I only lost 1.4 pounds. For the first time in a while, I had worked out every day, and for the most part I stayed on point with my points. I’m thinking that the weight loss honeymoon is over and that now it’s really going to be work to lose every week. I know you’re really only suppose to lose 1-2 pounds healthily so maybe that’s where I’m at. You know what though? I’m okay with that. With lifting weights regularly is going to change my figure more too and add muscle so I’m definitely not going to change what I’m doing. Regardless, I’m in the 260’s (269.2 to be exact) for the first time in at least a decade and I have lost a total of 88 freakin’ pounds. The reality is, every weigh in I am treading in to new weight loss territory. And that feels awesome.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi. Nothing new. However, we bought some Back 2 Nature cereal (you know, the hippy kind that’s in a bag to make it more earth friendly) since it was BOGO at Publix so I’ll have to review that this week. 4 points

Lunch: After church, the young professionals class went to Moe’s for lunch. As you may know, I’m not a huge fan of Moe’s but I can stand it every once in a while to at least give it a chance. I had the Art Vandalay Jr. Lite with grilled veggies, guac, the works. It was a decent sized burrito and their salsa bar is pretty epic so it eased my craving for queso (which is a delicious demon that I deal with daily.) The burrito with chips was  12 points so it wasn’t bad and I would definitely have that again.

Afternoon Snackage: It was a gorgeous day in Tallahassee with a high barely reaching 80 so Megan and I sat outside and read our respective Harry Potter books and enjoyed the day. While out there I had an english muffin with honey to enhance my reading experience. 1 point. Then, we went over to Starbucks and I had some dirty coffee for 3 point.

Dinner: So grocery day is tomorrow so by this time in the week, we are getting a little creative for meals and this week Megan delivered. She made this Pasta Premavera with shells that turned out really well. The serving size was huge for only 5 points so I had half a serving of seconds for 7.5 points.

Evening snack:
I had a Vitatop with a glass of milk for 3 points. Hooray.

So today I got to 30.5 points which works fine for me. See ya tomorrow.

Day 229: Back To Life, Back To Reality Edition

Why hello there!

I know I know, I missed you too. It has been a crazy week full of good intentions of blogging while on vacation and sending you videos of awesome things and stuff like that, but alas that didn’t happen. It wasn’t for a lack of motivation, but more of a lack of energy after days of walking a crapton of miles while running over foreigners and slow moving people in wheelchairs. We had a blast on our trip though, the crowds were relatively light, the weather was perfect and we made it on all the rides we were hoping too. As far as food went, we packed our lunches a few days, I ordered a kids meal and we split a few meals which really helped, but some indulging did go down. If you haven’t been, Disney is pretty unhealthy but in the sinful delicious way we all love. From French pastries to a cheeseburger at 11:00 at night, I bent some of my eating rules while not completely breaking them. I split a pastry with Megan and instead of fries with the cheeseburger, I opted for the apple slices. It’s hard at Disney because you walk so freakin’ much (we walked about 32 miles this week) that you get really hungry and unless you have a lot of snacks it’s easy to cave and get some caloric bombshell.

With that all being said, I think I’ve made a lot of progress since back in the days of the 350’s; I’ve changed my mindset with how to handle certain situations. I used to just justify my poor food decisions with an intention of denial, back then I would have said “Oh, I can get the apple slices and then that offsets the burger so I’m okay.” (For some reason, people think that fruits and veggies have these magical powers to undo any greasy thing eat.) I wouldn’t acknowledge that it was a bad decision/situation which snowballs in to size 54 pants rather quickly. Now, it’s more about damage control. My mindset now it “okay, I know this is a bad situation (cheeseburger at 11 pm) but how can I modify the meal to make it bearable?” So that’s what I do know instead of just saying “everything will be fine.” Whenever you’re in a situation like that, think about how you can make it better.

Alright, now that we have that all squared away, let’s talk about today!

Breakfast: Wafflewich, old friend I have missed you. 5.5 points

Lunch: So we bought these awesome bowls from the Japanese Pavilion at Epcot that had Owls inside so what better way to try them out than with tomato soup and grilled cheese! Instead of schlacking the bread with a ton of butter, I just gave them a few spritzes with I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! spray and it worked just fine! I also made this a salad with trail mix and FF honey mustard dressing. It was a light but very hearty lunch for 9.5 points.

Workout/NSV: Today was the start of our Super Awesome Workout Summer (S.A.W.S.) Our objective is to workout six times a week in the morning before my classes to get trim and healthy. I’m in a desperate need of getting toned and I’m really ready to break the century mark so needless to say we are both really stoked for this summer! We went to Leach and got a really good workout in to ease the blow of this week. I also got a new Under Armour shirt at the outlet mall in Orlando as an weight loss goal reward. I bought my first UA workout shirt in 2009 that was an XXXL and it was still a little tight in some places. This one is an XL and it actually fits. I was really stoked because the XXL’s were too big! What the crap? I haven’t crossed the “Only XL t-shirts fit” threshold yet, but it’s on the horizon and that is going to be huge because I have been wearing XXL’s since the 5th grade. Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah! At Leach I hit the elliptical for 35 minutes on a cross-training program and then I did an arms and abs workout for about 4o minutes. I think the plan for the summer is to start out with cardio everyday and then alternate arms/legs/core workout. Maybe a class thrown in there somewhere. Anywho, I had a really good workout and burned a good chunk of calories. Good workout indeed. (PS, I don’t know why I have such a serious/constipated look on my face in that picture.)

Snack: After Leach, we went through the drive through at Starbucks for their buy one get one half off on frappuccinos. We both got the Strawberries and Cream with soymilk and no whip. It was delicious and I didn’t miss the whip at all. It was still 4 points but wasn’t bad for a frappucino. I used to get the Venti with whip and regular milk which was a crapton of calories and fat (the whip cream alone is a nightmare.) It was a nice afternoon snack.

Snacking again: I had a thing of matzos with some laughing cow cheese and then had some popcorn before dinner. 5 points.

Dinner: Megan has been Jonesin’ to make this Southwest Quinoa recipe so she finally made it tonight and it was the bomb diggity yo! (Yes… that good.) It was basically quinoa, black beans, corn, cilantro and cayenne so it was only 2 point for 1/2 cup! It’s easily the most filling meal for the points I have ever had. I had 2 cups which was 8 points. It really filled me up. A super win of a meal.

So today I got to 32 points which isn’t bad considering I have some exercise points. Tomorrow I have a weigh in that once again I don’t know where I stand. I haven’t been on the scale at all this week which has really helped keep my sanity. That is another big goal I have this summer, not to be obsessed with knowing what I weigh every five seconds, it just makes you feel like crap and it doesn’t do any good. Anyways, I am cautiously optimistic that the walking will help but we will just have to see. See ya tomorrow.

Day 209: Weigh In. Big New Goals. Pink Eye.

Sup yo.

So yes, we are still sick. To make things even more interesting, I have lost my voice (and I can’t find it guffah guffah) and I sound like a bad-Marlon-Brando-in-the-Godfather-who-has-pink-eye impersonation. Anyways, with the crapton of work I have, I’m really ready to get better to get through the end of the semester. I guess being sick does has its benefits, I  lost 3 pounds this week! Although I did indulge a little bit at the end of the week, I kept within my points which pays off. So… as of today I am 15.2 pounds away from losing 100 pounds! I’m sooo close! That’s right boys and girls! I have lost 84.8 pounds since September. I’ve come a long way and I have you to thank dear reader. Since I’m now below 275 (for the first time this millennium) I am now at a new point limit: 30 points a day which is not a lot considering when I started I had 34 points a day.

Breakfast: Just a 5.5 point wafflewich. Legit

Snack: For a mid morning snack I had a rice crispy treat and a cup of coffee.  2 points

Lunch: For wanting to be in the advertising business, ads really do work on me. I saw a Jimmy John’s commercial and after that it was all I wanted for lunch. So we got them to deliver (and yes, it was freaky fast) since the idea of going outside at that point was awful. Anyways, their subs aren’t great for you, but their not that bad if you cut the mayo. I have the vegetarian sub and it would of had 30 grams of fat but then I cut the mayo and I was only 9 grams of fat. Pretty insane. Anyways their veggie sub has avacado spread, lots of lettuce, sprouts and cucumbers. It was amazing. Also, I but a little bit of our light mayo on it and it tasted pretty much the same! 8 points

Snack: Around 3 I was getting pretty hungry so I had a 3 point veggie patty chicken sandwich. It. Was. Awesome.

Dinner: Yesterday, we bought some mahi mahi from Earth Fare to have for dinner some time this week. I wanted to make fish tacos (my favorite thing in the world. Seriously.) So Megan made a pseudo deconstructed version of fish tacos and it rocked. She made her own pico de gallo, baked the mahi mahi, and then served it with a dolip of light sour cream and blue corn chips. The best part was that the fish was only 125 calories with 1.25 grams of fat so most of the points came from the chips. Probably the best 7 point dinner I’ve ever had.

Dessert: We had to return a movie at Publix, so we went to Yoga Berry for a little dessert. (I know what you are thinking and don’t worry, I Purrell’d the tar out of my hands before I touched anything.) I had some taro with crushed up waffle cone, strawberries and blackberries. A pretty awesome 4 point dessert.

So today I’m up to 29.5 points so that will work!

GOAL TIME! So I know I’ve rolled out some goals earlier this month, but today I’ve thought a lot about adding some more goals to serve as a timeline to keep on track with my weight loss. I know a lot of people think that you have to have small goals mixed in with the large goals and I agree with that, but when I have a big goal, like getting under 300 by my birthday this year, it made me work really hard to get to it. As far as goals go, toy around with both and find what works for you! Anyways, here are my new goals:

Be at 250 by the 4th of July

Be at 200 pounds by December 31st, 2011.

Be in Onederland (below 200 pounds) by my 25th birthday.

Looking at these numbers, I know they look kind of far fetched from now, but that’s about losing 2 pounds a week so that is doable. I know that is going to get harder as I get thinner (I just realized I’ll be thin soon. Legit!) but I have the whole summer to work out, run, and hopefully surf  to get down to my goal weight. So far, this journey has been a blast and I can’t wait to see how it will all pan out. Get stoked. See ya tomorrow.

Day 202! I’m Back and GOAL WEIGHT TIME!

I’m back! Finally. I know it has been since Wednesday and between now and then I’ve been sick, been loopy on DayQuil, slept alot, have coughed up various colors of green (TMI?)  and have done a crapton of homework. It’s going to be a crazy end to the semester.

Anyways, so with being sick and eating a lot of bad (yet delicious) sickly comfort food, I only lost .2 pounds this week. I lost that much the week before last then last week I lost 4.8 pounds so maybe that pattern can repeat. I’m slowly feeling better but it’s one of those things where I’m feeling fine, but then when I get in larger groups I start to feel bad. It’s really weird. So I’m going to try to work out this week and maybe get some racquetball in too!

Non-Scale Victory: So I said I would never say three things on this blog: my social security number, my GRE score, or my waist size. Well time to break my own rule [insert deep breath here]. When I started this weight loss odyssey in the summer, I bought a pair of size 54 pants. Yeah… like 4 and a half feet of waistline. Pretty insane right? Today, I bought a pair of size 44’s. (For those playing at home, yes that is 10 inches.) I wore 44’s in 6th grade (which is pretty said in itself) but now I’m back down to it and it feels great. I have quite a bit to go and even thought I didn’t lose that much this week, that made me pretty happy. Legit.

Goals! Now I’m down to 275.2. Now what? I’m only 18 pounds away from 100 freakin’ pounds! What then? These are the questions that keep me awake at night (unless I’m knocked out from sudaphed.) So here’s my ultimate goal: (get stoked. Here… We… Go…) My ultimate goal weight is 157 pounds. Yep, that’s right, 200 pounds of total weight loss awesomeness. A lofty goal? I don’t think so. Doable? Heck yes. This thing is going to happen. I have no clue when it will happen. Maybe in a year, maybe in 2 years, maybe tomorrow (okay.. not tomorrow) Regardless, I’m stoked and I’m going to work on it starting…. now. Game Time Baby!

Breakfast: I just had a cinnamon toast eggo thingy with a little peanut butter. 3.5 points

Lunch: I wasn’t feeling too well and with that came a little antisocial so just the two of us went to Mellow Mushroom for Megan’s birthday lunch. We split an appetizer of their fantastic bruschetta and a cheese calzone that kind of looked like the horn phone on the Flintstones. It was a great cheap lunch. Not a bad 13 point lunch!

Snack: For a snack I had Christian nachos (matzos and a Laughing Cow Chipotle Queso cheese wedge) Pretty awesome stuff. 2 points

Dinner: We were trying to figure out where to go for dinner that wouldn’t be too expensive or unhealthy. After driving around and making a trip to Earth Fare, we decided to do something a little different. Yesterday, Megan bought this really nice Chinese dish set from World Market so we bought some vegan dumplings from Earth Fare and Pepper Chicken with rice at home on our new plates. It was a cute, quaint and delicious dinner. A good way to celebrate Megan’s birthday.  13 points

So today I got to 31.5 points. A pretty great way to start off a new week with a lot of weight to lose. Here… We… Go… See ya tomorrow.
