Day 181: Weigh In Day!!!!!!

Why Hello!

It’s been way too long since I have posted and for that I’m sorry. I have gotten a lot of guff (yes, I said guff) from people about missing two posts in a row and for that I thank you. I really appreciate the support and accountability this community provides. It is a key contributor to my success so far and with the century pound mark in sight, your support is appreciated now more than ever. So thanks for calling me out Matt DC. I know you were just giving me a hard time, but it meant more than you know. So this morning I got in the scale with low expectations. We had to eat out the majority of last week due to the insanity of our schedule (somehow this week is going to be more insane. What what!) Anyways, for the few posts I did have, you saw the cheesey goodness that I consumed in mass proportions so I was just hoping to at least maintain (it would have been gained if I hadn’t worked out.) Well, my metabolism must be better than I think. I lost 2.2 pounds! Pretty awesome stuff!!! I am sooooo close to being in the 270’s now. I weigh 280.4 so super duper close. So with this week’s loss, I am 23.4 pounds away from 100 pounds. It’s getting there! Like I said this week is going to be bonkers, but we are going to be smarter with meals so 270’s: see ya soon!

Breakfast: So I made two packets of double fiber oatmeal but had it in the microwave too long. It always feels like when you make two packets, it either has the consistency of snot, or it blows up and gets all over the microwave. Well… the latter happened, and a large portion of my oatmeal was everywhere. (No, I did not eat the oatmeal shrapnel left in the microwave.) It was about 5 points worth of oatmeal. Yumtastic.

Lunch: After church, we needed to eat somewhere pretty fast so Megan could meet up with her friends for their study marathon. We ended up going to the Panera next to our house. Panera’s food is deceiving because you expect it to be healthy since it’s fresh but then it’s more points/calories than you hope. Regardless, it’s delicious so we still go there :). I had the half asain sesame chicken salad and half a Mediterranean veggie sandwich. It was really good and the salad was huge for just being half a salad. For the salad, the sandwich and the yummy baguette, it was 14 points. Not bad for how good it tastes.

Snack: While I was studying, I had 3 points of pretzels. That’s 30 pretzels. Holy cow.

Dinner: So this was a little different. While Megan was studying with our friend Catherine, I was at my small group and they had gotten dinner. By the time I was done it was 9:00 so I was starving. Megan texted my with news of leftover Chinese so I headed over there. I had Megan’s left over orange chicken with rice and an egg roll. I was good at the time. It took me back to my favorite super cheap Chinese place in Abilene where you could get a mountain of food for about $4. While the savoring moment lasted for a while, I still have the sodium taste in my mouth as I’m writing this. Not good. So it was high in points, and I have no real way of figuring it out, but here is what I know: I’m not the same guy I used to be. A meal like this was what I ate at least 3 times a week and it didn’t phase me at all. Tonight, I tried to go back to my old self and it wasn’t near as good as I remember. That’s so encouraging to me. To me it means that it would take a lot to get back to where I was, and that’s how I want it.

Snack: We went to Publix to get some groceries including watermelon and Cinnamon Toast Eggos which I have never had. They were delicious and  2 points.

So today wasn’t the best, but I have learned from my mistakes and I plan to work hard this week to lose a good chunk of weight. It’s going to be an interesting week. Bring it on. See ya tomorrow.

FSU WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SWEET 16 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 178: St Paddy’s Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

I hope your day was filled with Lucky Charms and other foods full of toxic green dye in them. Ours was busy, like the rest of this week has been. It’s just been nuts this week! I don’t feel like we have been home at all… because we haven’t. Sadly, there is no end in sight to this madness! Awe well, it’s how it goes. Alright, let’s talk food yo!

Breakfast: I thought I would change up my breakfast routine a little bit today. I had a cup of Pomegranate Chobani with 1/4 cup of Kashi Berry Crunch. It was pretty good, but the dried berries in the thick Greek yogurt was hard to chew. A little weird, but still a really filling breakfast! It was only 4 points too so not bad.

Exercise: I got the gym at around 9 this morning and it was a ghost town! Usually, it’s pretty busy but not completely packed. (I’m sure it had nothing to do with the bars in Tallahassee opening as early as 6 AM this morning.) Anyways, I had pretty much full range of the joint which was a nice change so I worked on my arms and core. I did a lot of what Kyle showed me last week but I didn’t push myself as hard as I should have. I’ve gotten a little lethargic in my workouts which bothers me. I think I really need to start working out with a personal trainer to pick back up some momentum. Regardless, I got a really good sweat going and despite playing soft rock throughout the gym, it was a good hour workout. 1o exercise points.

After-Exercise Breakfast: FSU has this awesome free standing Starbucks in the middle of campus with plenty of chairs on their deck so I decided to get some breakfast and just relax. I had their oatmeal with brown sugar and a Venti green tea (I mean… it is St. Paddy’s Day!) It was a really good but I was shocked when I figured out the ice tea was 3 points, as much as the oatmeal. That’s a little strange. Either way, it was a 6 point after workout breakfast.

Lunch: Since every Thursday our Campus Minister Adam comes up to campus to have lunch with us, I suggested one week we have a picnic on Landis Green, this big open field with beautiful old trees with Spanish moss draping down from them (I love Florida.) Anyways, today was perfect for a picnic! It was warm and not a cloud in the sky. Adam and Crystal provided the sandwich fixins for us so I just had a turkey with mustard on wheat. It was about a 5 point sandwich. So not too bad. Then we threw a frisbee around so it was a great afternoon!

Snack: When I got home from my class and slowly watched my NCAA bracket slowly deteriorate, I made myself a veggie chicken sandwich on an English Muffin. Pretty awesome 3 point snack. Then, I had 2 points of pretzels with some mustard for dipping. The pretzels really held me over until dinner!

Dinner: In honor of St. Paddy’s Day, Earth Fare had their Hot and Salad Bar half off today! (It’s usually $7.99/pound! Score!) It was no surprise when we got there and they had some amazing stuff. I had the following awesome items: Guinness Stew, Vegetarian Stuffed Cabbage Roll, Cod, and Sausage with Peppers. Then I had a baby spinach salad with a artichoke hearts, a little cheese and a roasted red pepper vinaigrette (I didn’t really eat the egg.) It was a great dinner that was a little overindulgent but delicious nonetheless.

Snack: While we were watching this week’s episode of Biggest Loser on demand, I had 2 points worth of popcorn. Good stuff.

So today I got to 22 points without being really sure of what dinner was. I also had the 10 exercise points so I was probably in the clear. I feel like I used up all my weekly points on last night. If you recall from the pictures, we at at this awesome Italian restaurant called Bella Bella. We were in a pinch for time so we went there just to try it out. Now this week has been particularly busy and with the time change, we have both been really thrown off the rhythm we had before Spring Break. So we go in and the waitress suggests we try the Bubble Bread appetizer. We just thought it was going to be some special made bread; instead it was cheese bread with a schlacking of garlic butter under the cheese. It was heavenly. Instead of having a salad with my dinner, I have clam chowder. Then for dinner I had their Sicilian Lasagna with sausage and other wrong things. I ate most of it, but I still removed the thick layer of ricotta to try to ease the pain. I’m not gonna lie, I was having a crappy day, and some unhealthy food was the only thing that was going to do it for me. Did it make my day any better? Not enough to offset how hard I’m going to have to work out the rest of this week to avoid a gain. I was talking to Megan and I was going to say  “it’s been one of those weeks that the food is just not what it needs to be” but all that came out was “it’s been a week,

Day 160: Weigh In Week 26…

So… Week 26… Intense stuff…

I have been on my weight loss journey for about 6 months. 26 weeks has been half a year, and now I am finally starting to feel the strain from this long journey. This week has been nuts. I have been stressed with school and just life in general. I am so thankful that Spring Break is right around the cornered because it is much needed. Yesterday, I could just feel the gain coming on. We ate out for all 3 meals so I just knew it was going to happen. I wasn’t as careful as I could have been; it’s like when you know you’re screwed so instead of trying to do damage control you just say screw it. Well, I paid for it big time and it sucks. I gained 3 pounds this week (I could hear you cringe and say ouch when you read that.) I know, it was no bueno, but I know why it happened: stress from school, eating things I didn’t know the points of, not counting everything, I hurt my leg at some point in the week, so I didn’t work out as much, and maybe the biggest one, I didn’t drink enough water. So, this is a new week and a clean slate. We are both going to hold each other accountable this week and just eat better food. We are still pressing on even thought it seems to get harder and harder everyday. If anyone has some advice about how to keep going when you’ve been dieting for so long I’d love to hear it. Alright, now that that’s over with. Time to talk food.

Breakfast: I just had an english muffin with a little butter and honey. If you haven’t, you really need to get the Nature’s Own 100 calorie english muffins. They are awesome. Anyways the muffin with a little butter and honey was 2 points.

Snack: Between class and service,I had a Kashi bar to hold me over during church and to get my metabolism going. (Megan and I both lost more when we ate 6 times a day so that’s what we are trying to do.) 2 points of yumness.

Snack again!: We got this awesome dark chocolate peanut butter from Earth Fare that is only a point for a tablespoon! I put it on a waffle for 2.5 points.

Lunch: We went back to the food basics (which is the plan for this week) we had the awesome turkey burgers for lunch. We were going to have salads, but since it was a little bad, we went a difference route and made this garlic rice with red and black quinoa. It was this microwave  90 second Uncle Bens and it was really good. The burger was 6 points and the rice was 3 points. Pretty good lunch.

Snack: I’ve been working on a paper all day so this afternoon, I needed some brain food. So I had some Chobani pomegranate. It was beautiful and delicious. After you are done reading this post, run to the grocery store, and grab yourself some Chobani! It was 3 points!

Dinner: Speaking of food basics, we had Mac and Cheese with broccoli for dinner. It was so good! It was nice just to eat the classics like I was going back home. Pretty awesome stuff. I had a serving and a half for 9 points. It was great.

So today I got to 27.5 points which is good stuff for me. Like I said, it’s a new week, and it’s time to kick some butt. See ya tomorrow.

Day 158: Friday Fun Stuff!

This week was nuts, and today was just the icing on the cake. Read on.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi Berry Crisp happiness. 4 points of awesomeness.

Lunch: So I got up to campus to work on some stats homework that I had to use a certain program. 3 hours later of not having a clue of what I was doing, I had to run to my internship. I didn’t have time to get a real lunch so I snagged this out of the vending machine. The reason the granola bar is out of focus is because I was running to my car while I was taking the picture. Regardless, it was really good and 4 points.

Snack I didn’t really have a lunch so the whole time at my internship I was starving. When I finally got home, I had another 4 point bowl of cereal.

Dinner: We went out to dinner with our awesome ACU friend James who is auditioning at FSU tomorrow and a bunch of the folks from the Music department. We went to La Fiesta which looks small on the outside but is massive on the inside (not that this matters.) Anyways, I had the spinach enchiladas and they were really good. We didn’t get our food for about an hour and a half because we had so many people so I did eat a lot of chips and salsa (can you blame me though? I didn’t eat that much all day. Awe well) Anywho, I’m not sure how much dinner was but it couldn’t have been more that 19 points. I’ll be better next time. See ya tomorrow.

Day 150: Thursday Short and Sweet

I’ll keep this brief:

Breakfast: Wafflewich awesomeness 5.5 points

Lunch: The Side Sampler at Pollo Tropical- black beans, rice, balsamic tomato and corn. It was fantabulous. 10 points

Workout: It was kind of like this, without all the drugs.

http://www.hulu.com/watch/4090/saturday-night-live-weekend-update-all-drug-olympics

It was beastly and much needed.

Snack: Kashi Berry Crisp in Yogurt YUM!!!!! 4 points

Dinner: Uncle Jim’s Chili on a baked potato with sour cream, cheese, and guacamole (yes I said quac) 10 points.

Total: 29.5 a great day. See ya tomorrow.

Day 141: Oops Edition

{I’m taking a break from a rough study session. I have a beastly test tomorrow so pray for me :)] It’s been a pretty good day because it’s finally sunny outside! Hooray! But it was still cold and windy… and I was wearing short and chacos. (#Weatherfail) Anyways, on to food (and sadly a little too much)

Breakfast: We finally went grocery shopping last night and we picked up a lot of produce and some other awesomeness, one of which being Publix Waffles!!!!!!! So I made a wafflewich  (5.5 points) and when I was studying this morning, I had about 3 points worth of trail mix.

Lunch: After Megan beasted her own massive test, we went to Pitaria for some lunch. We usually get their awesome tomato soup, but they only had lentil, which is good but not the best tasting. I went with a greek salad with falafel patties. I was fantastic, but I went a little overboard with the olive oil/balsamic vinegar. I knew better but it happened and awe well. I didn’t eat all of the salad to avoid the oil soak leaves. It was an 18 point salad which was rough but I know better for next time.

Snack: After I got home from class, I had some WW pizza bagels for 5 points.

Dinner: Megan made this awesome veggie spaghetti with oven roasted veggies. I was just plain good. My bowl was 9 points.

So today I got to an atrocious 40.5 points. At lunch, I should have went with the lentil soup because it was much lower points and I’m sure a lot more fiber, but that’s how this works. I’m 141 days in to this and I’m still learning. It’s how it goes. Tomorrow morning we are going to work out so I’ll just work a little harder then. Oh yeah, tomorrow, back by popular demand, it WORDLESS WEDNESDAY! Get stoked. See ya tomorrow.

Day 133: Monday Edition

So this is the week that I’m getting back on track and so far it’s been pretty good! I know it’s only been one day but still, it’s one day at a time right.

Breakfast: We got up super early to get to the gym which (is a part of our getting back on track) so I had two waffles and 1/2 a serving of peanut butter. It was pretty good for 5.5 points (PLEASE NOTE: I just realized I had that at 4.5 points yesterday. Oops…)

Work Out: The gym was awesomely empty (except for a random bunch of old people) so we pretty much had free reign of the joint. I hopped on the stairmaster and got my glutes dominated. It was a good way to start off the workout. Then, I saw my friend Justin and we decided to play a little racquetball. I gave him a lesson on how to play (literally, I taught him how to play.) It was a lot of fun. After that, I just did a few machines and it was time to go. For the rest of the day, I was wondering why my foot was feeling funny. Then I took off my sock… and my foot was black and blue. It’s not on the ankle, it’s a little further down. I’m going to try to be easy on it for a few days and just workout arms tomorrow. Anyways, it was only 4exercise points.

Snack: After my workout, I had 3 points worth of trail mix and a 3 point Iced Skinny Caramel Macchiato while I was working on homework and internship stuff.

Lunch: I was in a real rush, so I just made a quick sandwich and packed some more trail mix for the afternoon. The sandwich was only 5 points.

Snack: I had the aformetioned trail mix at 3ish 3 points. (Snacks at 3. Do it.)

Dinner: I came home to Megan’s awesome batch of chili with rice. It was fantastic and filling, the perfect way to end the day. I had 9 points w0rth of chili and rice. I lover hearty low point dinners.

So right now, I’m at 30.5 points. I have to start working on a paper so I think I’ll make bag of low point popcorn. Pretty awesome. See ya tomorrow.

132: A New Start Edition

This week was beastly. It has been full of stress, complacency, and just plain bad eating. It was particularly bad on Friday. I was really bad on Friday because I weighed early to see how I was doing and I was down to 294.4! I was really stoked. Bad idea. Every time I do that I unintentionally screw it up the rest of the week. On Friday we ate a very indulgent meal and it put the rest of this week in a funk. I haven’t been really counting my points like I should. I’ve done a lot of estimating this week. Then this happened… for the first time, I gained 1.4 pounds this week. I know that it has to be retained water from the bizarre kind of week it has been, but it has really opened my eyes to get me back on track. Expect a much better number there next week.

Breakfast: We bought some Kashi waffles this week and they are good, but they are still not near as good as Publix waffles. Every other frozen I’ve tried have been really soggy (maybe I just need to turn up my toaster… hmmmmm) Anyways, like I said they are good and I had half a serving of peanut butter which was only 4.5 points.

Lunch: After church, we went to the Tallahassee Mall (the creepy near abandoned mall where most zombie movies take place) and ate at their food court. Luckily there is a Subway which is especially good. I had the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki which is one of my favorites but I haven’t had it in ages. The 6″ with some chips was 10 points.

Dinner: Megan had been wanting to try this new recipe she found in a Taste of Home magazine so we gave it a shot. This beautiful concoction to your left is Tex Mex Porkchops. Basically, the sauce was salsa, green chiles, and sauteed onions. I usually don’t like salsa as a sauce like this, but it was really good! Megan thought it was a little salty but we both think it was the kind of salsa we used. The porkchops were only 4 points (if they are about 5 ounces) so dinner was only 8 points which is sad that it was less points than a sub and chips. (Eating in folks, that’s where it’s at!)

Snack: I just had a 1/4 cup of trail mix for 3 points. Hooray.

Overall today I unintentionally only got to 25.5 points which is kind of below but it’s too late to eat so I’ll just keep drinking my water. This week, I’m going to get back on a consistent work out schedule with healthy food abound. I’m really going to focus on reviving the fire I had to lose the weight and rid any shred of complacency that is left within me. What an epic battle it should be. See ya tomorrow.

Day 129: Thursday Tursday

Ever had one of those days where you wonder how it went from “Life is so awesome!” to “Why go on? Humanity is doomed!” Welcome to my Thursday. So, I had said that this blog was going to be a verbal bloodbath of things that hack me off like childhood obesity and people that make fun of others who are a little heftier. Since then, I’ve mellowed out a little, but that time will come. Sorry if I got you excited. Let’s talk about food.

Breakfast: I had some Kashi Granola Honey Almond yumness. It wasn’t bad for 5 points.

Exercise: I finally made some time to work out today. I really needed it. This week has included a lot of sitting of almost sedentary proportions. I had a hour, and I wanted to pack it with as much exercise as possible. Not always the best idea. I started out by hopping on the stairmaster for 10 minutes. I know this picture sucks, but the elliptical and the stairmasters are on the second floor so it’s like you’re walking in to nothingness. A little weird. After working up a decent sweat, I did a little lifting and then tried to run but my calves started to crap up so I called it good. It felt good to exercise, I really need to make it a priority to keep losing weight.  7 exercise points.

Lunch: I had Pollo Tropical again today. I like it and it’s the best option on campus, but I think I’m going to take it easy for a while. I had the 1/4 chicken with rice and beans (it wasn’t as greasy as it looks) It was 13.5 points.

Snack: I had to run over to Strozier to rent season 2 of Breaking Bad (so awesome) and I had a little extra time, so I had an Iced Skinny Caramel Macchiato. Also it was free! I had a free drink for my birthday. Pretty awesome, not to mention 3 points.

Dinner: When I got home, Megan had made some cajun chicken with broccoli and a potato. It was pretty awesome even it was chicken twice in a day. An 8 point meal. Broccoli is a beast.

So today I got to 29.5 points. Not too shabby. See ya tomorrow.
