Day 174: Weigh In

Howdy!

It’s been a great Sunday. You could say it was “WINNING!” Church this morning was particularly awesome and then we headed out to St. George Island to meet up with some friends to savor the last hours of Spring Break on the beach. It was windy, but the water was warm enough to swim and the it was a beautiful emerald. (I love Florida.) Anyways, I didn’t sleep well last night due to a combination of worrying about the weigh in and the fear of waking up late because of Daylight Savings. I was anxious to see if the week was better than I thought it was. It turned out alright! I was lying in bed when I heard Megan yell through the house “Nathan! I lost 2 pounds!” I’m so proud of her! She’s lost a total of 35 pounds! I’m so proud of her and she’s lookin’ fine! Then it was my turn. I stepped on and I got a pleasant surprise: I lost 2.9 pounds! Holla! I’m really stoked because it could have went either way. So since September 14th, my first post (almost 6 months to the day) I have lost 74.4 pounds and since I’m now at 282.6, I’m shooting to break 280 this week. It’s been a tough road to ho, but the hard work has really paid off and I thank you all for your awesome support. For those who read this blog and want to start their weight loss journey but a nervous, I challenge you this week to try a few simple changes. Drink water instead of Dr. Pepper, take the stairs instead of the elevator (4 floors is not that bad!) take a walk around your block, and really think about what you are eating. Try these small steps and see how you feel at the end of the week. These little steps are the ones that will make the difference and will ultimately set you on the path of your weight loss journey. Seriously, what do you got to lose?

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich which was awesome (as always) and 5.5 points. After service when we were trying to race out of church, I snagged a left over muffin that Crystal made. It was so good and about 3 points.

Snack: We had to run to Walmart to get some essentials (diet coke and $3 thug sunglasses) and I got a big bag of pretzels to hold us over. Through out the day I ate about 4 points of pretzels. That was 40 pretzels too!

Lunch: I was really really really ready to get to the beach so we ran in to a Subway in Crawfordville and got the Megan Classic Ham on Wheat. 8 points. (Please note the thug $3 glasses)

Dinner: After a hard day of beach bummin’ it up, we all headed back and got some dinner. We stopped at this place called The Pit that had a carnivorous pig on the sign. I was thinking it was going to be BBQ, but it ended up being this awesome hole in the wall grill. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi with a salad and a baked potato with a little butter. (The oysters on the half shell really looked awesome so I’ll have to get those next time.) As you can see, it was a huge chunk of fish and the salad was really good too. It was only about a 8 point dinner which is awesome.

Dinner: We had a 15 bean soup slow cooking at our house so I had a 3 point bowl. It’s awesome and Megan put the pot in some containers so we are set for lunches this week (Spoiler Alert!)

So today I got to 31.5 points which is awesome. I ate pretty well and had a blast today. It’s been a good day. Now back to reality. See ya tomorrow.

Day 167: Redemption Weigh In Day

I’m so sorry this post was so late. We’ve been hanging out with folks all day which has been a blast.

When I woke up, it felt like Christmas morning: I was anxious to just see what was under the tree good or bad because that way I would just know. I got some pretty exciting news! I lost 5.5 pounds this week! That made up for last week’s gain and then some! Basically I lost 2.5 pounds (I guess that’s how that works?) Anyways, what makes this week even cooler is that with this beast of a loss, I have lost 71.5 pounds and I have lost 20% of my body weight! I’m a four-fifths of the man I use to be! Pretty awesome weigh in day for sure; I’m even more excited to see how next weeks will be with so much time to work out this week. It should be a good one!

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich with the other half of yesterday’s banana. I was 6.5 points of deliciousness.

Snack: Between class and service, I had 2 points worth of almonds and I’m really glad I did…. read on.

Lunch: So after service, the college group and the young professionals all went to lunch at Red Elephant which is known for their pizza but they have a bunch of different stuff. Anyways, we had a reservation for 1:00 and we didn’t get seated until 2:00; oh yeah, it was in the 50’s today in Tallahassee and we had to sit outside! Lametastic! We finally got our table and when I had been looking at the menu I really wanted something that was hot and just hearty. So I had a salad… (I can see the confuse look on your face.) I had their Oriental Salad with Seared Tuna and Soy and Ginger dressing on the side. I was really impressed. The tuna was perfect and the oranges and pineapple were a really nice touch. It was a great salad that I would like to go back and get. They don’t have their nutritional info online (even though they advertise 550 calorie meals. You obviously know at least some of the nutritional info!!!!!!!!!) but I figured it out to be about 10 points?

Snack: We went home for a little bit after lunch just to relax until we were going to hang out with people again so I had a 6 point bowl of Kashi cereal while watching Season One of Boy Meets World (which is awesome.)

Dinner: Shortly after my snack, I had a ginormous 5 point slice of leftover lasagna which was good as always.

Snack: I had about 5 points worth of snacks which isn’t that bad considering we were over at our Campus Minister’s house until midnight. Most of those 5 points was from this awesome brownie that Crystal had made. The rest is some popcorn and some grapes. Usually I’m always tempted to eat a second anything be it cookie or whatever but tonight it didn’t even cross my mind.

So today I got to about 34.5 points which is okay with me. I ate pretty well and that’s what flex points are for. Plus, we are going to cook at home a lot this week so I’ll keep within my points pretty well. Also, while we were at their house I sat on a exercise ball for more than a hour and in that time I did leg raises on it (which were hard!) I’m sure there are some exercise points in there but I would try to justify it 🙂 See ya tomorrow.

Day 160: Weigh In Week 26…

So… Week 26… Intense stuff…

I have been on my weight loss journey for about 6 months. 26 weeks has been half a year, and now I am finally starting to feel the strain from this long journey. This week has been nuts. I have been stressed with school and just life in general. I am so thankful that Spring Break is right around the cornered because it is much needed. Yesterday, I could just feel the gain coming on. We ate out for all 3 meals so I just knew it was going to happen. I wasn’t as careful as I could have been; it’s like when you know you’re screwed so instead of trying to do damage control you just say screw it. Well, I paid for it big time and it sucks. I gained 3 pounds this week (I could hear you cringe and say ouch when you read that.) I know, it was no bueno, but I know why it happened: stress from school, eating things I didn’t know the points of, not counting everything, I hurt my leg at some point in the week, so I didn’t work out as much, and maybe the biggest one, I didn’t drink enough water. So, this is a new week and a clean slate. We are both going to hold each other accountable this week and just eat better food. We are still pressing on even thought it seems to get harder and harder everyday. If anyone has some advice about how to keep going when you’ve been dieting for so long I’d love to hear it. Alright, now that that’s over with. Time to talk food.

Breakfast: I just had an english muffin with a little butter and honey. If you haven’t, you really need to get the Nature’s Own 100 calorie english muffins. They are awesome. Anyways the muffin with a little butter and honey was 2 points.

Snack: Between class and service,I had a Kashi bar to hold me over during church and to get my metabolism going. (Megan and I both lost more when we ate 6 times a day so that’s what we are trying to do.) 2 points of yumness.

Snack again!: We got this awesome dark chocolate peanut butter from Earth Fare that is only a point for a tablespoon! I put it on a waffle for 2.5 points.

Lunch: We went back to the food basics (which is the plan for this week) we had the awesome turkey burgers for lunch. We were going to have salads, but since it was a little bad, we went a difference route and made this garlic rice with red and black quinoa. It was this microwave  90 second Uncle Bens and it was really good. The burger was 6 points and the rice was 3 points. Pretty good lunch.

Snack: I’ve been working on a paper all day so this afternoon, I needed some brain food. So I had some Chobani pomegranate. It was beautiful and delicious. After you are done reading this post, run to the grocery store, and grab yourself some Chobani! It was 3 points!

Dinner: Speaking of food basics, we had Mac and Cheese with broccoli for dinner. It was so good! It was nice just to eat the classics like I was going back home. Pretty awesome stuff. I had a serving and a half for 9 points. It was great.

So today I got to 27.5 points which is good stuff for me. Like I said, it’s a new week, and it’s time to kick some butt. See ya tomorrow.

Day 154: Special Monday Weigh In Day!

So last week I was in a bit of a rut. I was just getting bored with what I ate and stuff like that. But I think this weekend with little control of the meals and portions jump started my rut. I came home ready to eat healthy and just live better. I had no clue how this week’s weigh in was going to be so when I got on the scale and found out I lost 3.6 pounds I was so stoked! I couldn’t believe but that’s just how it works. So I’m finally in the 280’s at 288 and I have lost a total of 69 pounds. Pretty insane stuff. Alright, food time.

Breakfast: I had my classic 4.5 point wafflewich which was just amazing. Gotta love your favorite breakfast.

Lunch: I didn’t have time to take a pic but I wish I would have. I put a veggie chicken patty on an English muffin. Basically, it was a light Chick-Fil-A sandwich. I really enjoyed it… even though I made and ate lunch in about 3 minutes today. It was only 3 points.

Snack: I brought a snack for around 3:00 when I get hungry, but I was just too hungry not to eat it. It was a Kashi granola bar with black cherry and dark chocolates. It was really good and 2 points.

Snack: After work, I had to have something before dinner. I had a bowl of Kashi Berry crunch which was only 4 points of awesomeness.

Dinner: Megan tried to make this fried rice for dinner and it was awesome. We bought these Uncle Ben’s microwave-in-the-bag so we added that to some peppers and onions and a scrambled egg. I was really impressed. It was 8 points which isn’t too bad.

Snack: I had another Kashi bar. 2 points

Dessert: Megan tried to make this new dessert that I just loved. She cut open an acorn squash and put it in the oven with butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It was cooked perfectly which really made the difference. A good little 3 point dessert.

So today I got to 26.5 points but I might have forgotten something in there. Either way, it’s good to be back. See ya tomorrow.

Day 146: Weigh In Day Round 24!

I thought you were suppose to get rest on the weekends? Awe well.

So yesterday, I was really stressing about this weigh in. I wasn’t really sure how it was going to go. I hadn’t eaten anything too bad (except for the falafel salad which might have been okay without all the olive oil) but I just felt blah a lot of the week. Anyways, after a killer workout last night, I felt a little better about the whole thing and all in all it worked out AOK. I lost 1.4 pounds this week! I was relieved and pretty stoked. Like I said last night, each week, I’m breaking records for how much I’ve weighed in my adult life so it’s a win-win. I’m officially down to 291.6! So legit!!!!!!!!!![insert more exclamation marks here.] I’m really ready to get out of the 290’s and I’m really close. Here’s hoping for next week…

Breakfast: I have a bowl of Kashi blueberry flakes with milk since I’m out of waffles (I wonder why…. oh yeah I eat them every day.) 4 points.

Snack: After church, I was pretty hungry and since lunch was going to take a little bit, I had 3 points of those Boulder Canyon Rice Chips which are just awesome.

Lunch: Megan whipped up some mashed potatoes and carrots with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon on them (which might sound weird but is awesome) to serve with our Veggie Chicken patties. I cut mine up into tender like fashion (but they ended up looking like fish sticks but delicious nonetheless) and ate it with some ketchup. It turned out to be a pretty good lunch and only 6 points.

Snack: Throughout the day, I snacked on 1 point worth of chocolate espresso beans (7 of them equal a point.) I was pressed for time before my evening bible study so I had a cut up apple with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. It really held me over and 6 points.

Dinner: One of our friends Christian has this awesome Wikidot site called Christian’s Magical Recipes that has all of these fantastic vegetarian dishes so we tried his Butternut Squash Curry Soup recipe. I had this soup at a soup party Megan’s department had last semester and it was awesome so my expectations were high. Megan delivered and it turned out really well. A bowl like this was about 5 points, but I had some of Megan’s… and then cleaned out the pot with a laddle (not proud but it was worth it. Also, there wasn’t that much left.) So I had about 8 points worth of soup.

So today I just got to 28 points which is fine. I wasn’t emaciated or anything throughout the day so that will work.

It’s a new week. Make the most of it. See ya tomorrow.

Day 139! Epic Weigh In Day Extravaganza!

(Sorry for the lack of postage yesterday. My bad yo.)

So, you might recall that last week I gained weight for the first time in my weight loss journey. I kind of felt it coming though because I was getting in this complacent funk with food tracking and frankly the blog. I had lost the passion of what drove me to lose the weight and I was resting on my accomplishments. I had worked so hard up to that point and then tried to coast which failed miserably. So this week, we worked out almost every day, watched what we ate, and just did a better job of listening to our bodies (oh yeah, and drinking a ton of water.) Anyways, between all that and rekindling me passion for this blog and how much I love it, I did alright this week. I lost 5.6 freaking pounds!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP! I couldn’t believe at all. I flipped out. So awesome! This is the second most weight I’ve lost in a week other than the first week when I lost 10.8 pounds so that’s pretty cool stuff. So now I’m down to 293 pounds, I’ve lost a total of 64 pounds, and I’m 36 pounds away from my 100 pound goal. I have 80 days to go. Do you think I’ll make it? Me neither.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi Berry Crunch that was just straight up awesome. Can’t get any better than that.

Lunch: So we went out with some of the young professionals from church for lunch and we decided on Cracker Barrel. I’m still not a fan of the ol’ CB because they still don’t have their nutritional information available to the general public which is just wrong, but I figured if I did something a little lighter than chicken tenders or something like that I would be okay. I went with the lemon pepper rainbow trout with pinto beans, mashed potatoes and carrots. It was really good, the fish was really cooked well and the veggies were amazing as always. I also had two cornbread muffins with no butter. A pretty legit meal.

After lunch, we went over to our friends house so Megan and some other people from her department could study while the guys played FIFA and watch the Super Bowl. There was frozen pizza so I had two slices of cheese which was good and then we all snacked on homemade spicy chex mix through out the day. (Pictured: Felix the Wonder Cat in a Walmart bag)

Overall I think I did alright considering it was Super Bowl Sunday. I don’t have the exact measurements of everything because I’m not sure how much chex mix I ate. The rest of the week I’m going to be really careful about that though to keep on the weight loss wagon. See ya tomorrow.

132: A New Start Edition

This week was beastly. It has been full of stress, complacency, and just plain bad eating. It was particularly bad on Friday. I was really bad on Friday because I weighed early to see how I was doing and I was down to 294.4! I was really stoked. Bad idea. Every time I do that I unintentionally screw it up the rest of the week. On Friday we ate a very indulgent meal and it put the rest of this week in a funk. I haven’t been really counting my points like I should. I’ve done a lot of estimating this week. Then this happened… for the first time, I gained 1.4 pounds this week. I know that it has to be retained water from the bizarre kind of week it has been, but it has really opened my eyes to get me back on track. Expect a much better number there next week.

Breakfast: We bought some Kashi waffles this week and they are good, but they are still not near as good as Publix waffles. Every other frozen I’ve tried have been really soggy (maybe I just need to turn up my toaster… hmmmmm) Anyways, like I said they are good and I had half a serving of peanut butter which was only 4.5 points.

Lunch: After church, we went to the Tallahassee Mall (the creepy near abandoned mall where most zombie movies take place) and ate at their food court. Luckily there is a Subway which is especially good. I had the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki which is one of my favorites but I haven’t had it in ages. The 6″ with some chips was 10 points.

Dinner: Megan had been wanting to try this new recipe she found in a Taste of Home magazine so we gave it a shot. This beautiful concoction to your left is Tex Mex Porkchops. Basically, the sauce was salsa, green chiles, and sauteed onions. I usually don’t like salsa as a sauce like this, but it was really good! Megan thought it was a little salty but we both think it was the kind of salsa we used. The porkchops were only 4 points (if they are about 5 ounces) so dinner was only 8 points which is sad that it was less points than a sub and chips. (Eating in folks, that’s where it’s at!)

Snack: I just had a 1/4 cup of trail mix for 3 points. Hooray.

Overall today I unintentionally only got to 25.5 points which is kind of below but it’s too late to eat so I’ll just keep drinking my water. This week, I’m going to get back on a consistent work out schedule with healthy food abound. I’m really going to focus on reviving the fire I had to lose the weight and rid any shred of complacency that is left within me. What an epic battle it should be. See ya tomorrow.

Day 125: Weigh In Round 21

So last week was a little insane with a vacation at the beginning and crazy amount of school work in the middle. Even though I didn’t work out towards the end of the week, I still had a pretty good feeling since I stayed within my points for the most part. Not to mention this was the first week of a new 43 pound goal by April 27th. With that being said, I woke up this morning feeling thin (anyone know what I’m talking about?) so I was hoping for a big/little number. I lost 2.2 pounds this week which was not as high as I was hoping, but considering the insanity of the week I’m really happy about it! I try not to complain about not losing as much as I hope because 2 pounds in a week is normal and I hate it when people get frustrated about losing only 6 pounds on the Biggest Loser. So I’ll take it and it’s a good foundation for a new stop on my journey. As of now, I’m 40.2 pounds away from the 100 pound goal. Also, I’ve lost a total of 59.8 pounds in 4 months! Pretty legit.

Breakfast: I went the Wafflewich route. It was delicious, but I think I’m going to cut it down to just one waffle and half a serving of pb to lower the points and then have a mid morning snack. It was 8 points of nomage.

Lunch: Megan made this awesome breakfast scramble with potatoes, bell peppers, onions, bacon, and a combo of egg yolks and egg whites. I forgot to take a picture because I was really hungry. Sorry about that. Let me assure you it was a masterpiece. Anyways, it was only a 6 point lunch.

Snack: If you haven’t tried 94% ff kettle corn, you are missing out!!!!!!!!!! Just enough sweetness to feel like you are cheating but not saturated enough to make you feel gross. Half of the bag was only 2 points! Buy it today!

Dinner: While I was watching the worst Super Bowl slowly develop game by game, Megan made this awesome WW Mexican Turkey Casserole. It was sooo awesome. We haven’t had it in a while and I really missed it. With some chips my dinner was 15 points. Only one portion is 6 points so it’s really a good meal.

Snack: During our men’s small group, they cooked hamburgers and hot dogs. I had already eaten, but there were some Cape Cod Chips with 40% less fat so for 23 chips (which is a big serving size) was only 3 points. Not too shabby.

So today I got to 34 points which is high but hooray for weekly points. See ya tomorrow.

Day 115: Birthday Edition!!!!!!

[As I’m writing this it’s 12:04 on  the East Coast so it’s still my birthday in the majority of the country!]

So… I know why you’re reading. You want to know if I did it. WELL I TOTALLY DID!!!!!!! I worked hard this week and it showed. I woke up this morning tired and then I got on the scale and after that my day was great! I still have a looooooong road to hoe, but everyday I’m getting in the right direction. For that I have you, dear reader, to thank. Thank you for all of your love and support.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of cereal and milk 4 points.

Lunch: So after a crazy escapade of trying to find a parking spot that involved me actually driving back home to catch a bus back up to campus, I met up with Adam and some of the AFC folks for lunch on campus. I went with some Pollo Tropical and it was so good. They have some of the best rice and black beans I have ever had. This is the best kind of fast food in my opinion. I didn’t eat the roll so it the plate was 11 points.

Oh yeah, I was walking by this fountain on campus and it was partially frozen over. It was really cool so I thought I would show it off.

Dinner: I had a free bowl at Genghis Grill since it was my birthday so I went out with a few friends. It was a blast. I might have went a little overboard but it was so good. I did a surf and turf with marinated steak, imitation crab, scallops, and chicken along with a bunch of veggies and brown rice.

So we aren’t going to be able to be able to weigh in on Sunday so we both weighed in this morning. In this short week, Megan and I dominated! I lost 3.6 pounds and Megan, who had been struggling with a plateau, lost 4 pounds!!! It’s been a pretty awesome short week. Thanks again for all the support and birthday wishes! See ya tomorrow.

Day 111: Weigh In Day!!!!!!!!

Sorry this post is so late. I got home a little later than I had expected to. It was worth it though because I hung out with some friends from church and we had a blast. So this week had its’ share of challenges and I got through it but not as well as I had hoped. Regardless, I still lost 1.8 pounds which is pretty awesome! I’m at 303 so I would have to lose 3 pounds in about 3 days to break 300 by my 24th birthday. It’s so close that I can feel it. Time to buckle down and do it!

I have a confession to make to you, I’ve been really bad about habitually checking my weight not just through out the week, but through out the day. I’ve been doing it to out of fear that I’ve gained any but all it does is makes it where it’s all I can focus on and it rules me. I’m not going to lie, I was in a really bad place this week, but I’m working to steer away from doing that week. Plus, your weight fluctuates so much through out the day, there’s no point! It’s not telling you anything. So, I’m making myself not weigh until Thursday morning to see if I broke 300 by then and we’ll see. I think I’ve been doing this because I’ve been under this ridiculous delusion that everything will be better after I’m below 300 which is not the case. I still have a lot to lose and it’s going to get harder to lose as much. I really had to snap myself out of these thoughts today and move on.

Oh yeah, this week we are trying eating six small meals a day to see how that goes. Some people have said it has helped them lose weight.

Breakfast: I had a bowl of cereal with milk. Hooray. 4 points.

Lunch: Megan made this awesome egg white scramble with onions, peppers, and bell peppers. It was awesome. That plate was 5 points of deliciousness!!! Holy smokes!

Snack: We bought some Trail Mix from Earth Fare that was super on sale. It’s mostly pumpkin and sunflower seeds but it is really good. A 1/4 cup was only 3 points!

Snack: Megan made 3 point Strawberry Banana smoothies. So good.

(Sorry if this picture terrifies you, your small child, or your chihuahua)

Dinner: We were going to have mac and cheese but we ran short on time so we ate salmon instead! (A fair trade off I should say.) The salmon was just the way I like it, a little more on the rare side. We also bought a leafy mix salad and I had some Fat Free Honey Dijon which was awesome also. Surprisingly, I haven’t eaten a lot of salad since I started losing weight but I want to start because I really like it. Anyways, that plate was 9 points. So good.

Snack: While we were hanging out, some of the guys went and got food from Wendy’s so a couple of us just chilled and I had some cheerios. I haven’t eaten dried cereal in a while and I forgot how long it took to eat a cup of it! I’ll have to do that more often. That was only 2 points.

So today I only got up to 26 points but with the small meals, I wasn’t hunger at all during the day. However, I really need to be better about eating my daily points. This week, I learned that no matter how long you try to lose weight, you still learn a lot along the way. I was worried that I was becoming complacent but I think I have snapped out of whatever funk I was in/developing. It’s a new week, a clean slate. Should be a good one. See ya tomorrow.
