Day 340: Weigh In Labor Day Edition!

What up yoz!!!

You best be up reading my blog BECAUSE IT’S LABOR DAY TOMORROW!!! A day to celebrate the Puritans killing all the dinosaurs by forcing them off Plymouth Rock with Moonraker Lasers.

This week, I didn’t really count my points out like I should have, but I did eat healthy lunches pretty much every day and worked out a few times. It was a week that really could have gone either way. Luckily, I did alright. I lost exactly one pound! I’ll take it. I’m down to 253.8 so I’m going to work to get in to the 240’s by the end of the month which is really not out of the realm of possibility. (NSV: I just realized I wrote the 240’s and it made me happy giddy.) So far I have lost 103.2 pounds!!! or to quote my friend Jacob, it’s like losing two giant bags of dog food off of my body. So far so awesome, and the fun has just begun.

Breakfast: I had the good ol’ bowl of grape nuts to keep me full (and consequently: regular.)

Lunch: We had leftovers from Genghis last night so we did that for lunch. I actually had more for lunch today than last night so it was pretty awesome.  It also helped that I had spicy mustard at home which is my favorite Chinese condiment in the world. (Soy Sauce is for communists… just saying.)

Snack: While I was trying to read the worst textbook ever written, I had some pretzels. Sadly, the pretzels did not grant me the academic clarity I was looking for.

Dinner: Earth Fare had an awesome coupon for $2 off steak so we got a pound of sirloin for dinner. Megan cooked up some wild rice we bought a while back (also from EF) and then we bought some broccoli and cheese packets that are like a point a serving (score!) The steaks turned out really well and everything rocked as well. Pretty awesome dinner that was only $5 a person for an 8 oz steak with fixins. (And you say you can eat well for cheap.)

Dessert: During small groups, our friend Crystal made those awesome no bake/haystack “cookies” and I splurged and had like 4 of them. I know I know… bad llama. I had to eat them because the cookies told me if I didn’t they would multiply and take over the world, forcing mankind to serve the queen haystack that would reside in Glenn Close’s left nostril. (What the crap am I talking about?) In summation: oops.

So today I did alright, but nothing special. I at least at well on a meh day like this. It sucks when you don’t do well and it was because you ate random stuff that wasn’t substantial. Anyways, so next Monday (not tomorrow) will be my year anniversary of the diet. I can’t believe how much has changed in a year, but we will talk about that later. See ya tomorrow.

Day 333: Weigh In G Skillet!

Why Hello!

I know I know, no post on Saturday? I’m such a jerk. You know you still love me… right (please don’t leave me. I’m needy.)

So this past week I really put a focus of kick starting good habits before life gets insane again and it has made a big difference. I’m in a better mind set of looking towards the future and how making the right choices now will benefit tomorrow. This week I lost 2.6 pounds! I am officially back in the 100 pounds club and that is where I’m going to stay! I am officially down 102.2 pounds at at 254.8 pounds. (254 is my old area code. Shout out to the Hilltop what what!) Tonight, my friend David said that I have almost lost him which really blew my mind away. I have almost lost an adult male. This is craziness. This week, I’m going to shoot for 252. I think if I keep my mind on a figure, it will help me make good decisions in the week. Game time yo’s!

Breakfast: One thing I have been doing is eating a big breakfast so I won’t be starving during the rest of the day. This morning was no exception. Last week, we finally used the waffle iron we got for our wedding so I decided to make some waffles this morning with bacon and eggs. It was pretty epic. I eventually turned it in to a sandwich and the Fotographing Fat Kid said “nom nom nom nom” (Translation: “it was good.”)

Lunch: After church, we went to Momo’s with some friends for church. Like the last time we went, they set up a buffet (aka, two ginormous pizzas) for us. I held myself to two slices (which were the size of Roman city-states) of bacon and of pepperoni. It was pretty awesome. I wasn’t really hungry until about an hour ago.

Dinner: For small group tonight, our friend Ana made an epic lasagna for everyone, but we had to go so we took a piece home. After the last bite, I realized I hadn’t taken a picture of it. Fail. Regardless, it was pretty awesome so thank you Ana. Anyways, I also made a salad for dinner with some spinach, a little cheese, turkey, and a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I can’t wait to try that again with a hard boiled egg which would be an omelet salad?

Dessert: I had a little (a scoop) slow churned chocolate chip cookie dough that’s half the fat of regular ice cream but with all the awesome taste.

So today I did alright and tomorrow I will be back in the throws of it so to speak. School starts tomorrow, so the temptation of grazing at home will be lessened which will be awesome. I’m also ready to start back up Insanity tomorrow. It should be epically awesome. See ya tomorrow.

Day 326: Weigh In Time!

So last week, I celebrated a monumental occasion in my weight loss journey with losing 100 pounds. This week, I had let a lot of things slide, thinking that I could do it on my own. For some reason, I thought that the weight loss training wheels were off and so I didn’t worry about counting points or calories. I thought that listening to my body was going to be enough, but it’s a hard thing to do when you eat out 8 times in a week. It was just a week of social eating and I absolutely blame no one for that but myself for not being more careful. Granted, I still did awesome at the Chinese buffet last night, but I should have been better the rest of the week. This week I gained 1.6 pounds which means I am out of the 100 pounds club for now. I’ve been pretty bummed about it all day, but really I’m kind of glad it happened because it has really humbled me. I haven’t been coasting as of late, but I sure as heck haven’t been focusing like I should be. Last week though showed that when I really focus I can still have an almost 4 pound loss in a week even after almost a year. So I know I’ve had a lot of wake up calls like this, but this is a big one. This week, we really can’t afford to eat out a lot (so that kind of works out) so Megan has a super awesome menu lined up for the week, I’m going to do Insanity every day along with two days of racquetball thrown in there and I’m sure other fun things will pop up along the way. The fire I had for losing weight is back and I can’t wait to shed some pounds this week LIKE A BOSS!!!

Breakfast: I just had some Nutty Nuggets for breakfast which was only 4 points. Megan brought cookies to church and I had a few so through out the day I ate 3 points of cookies.

Lunch: So I know I just spent an entire paragraph talking about being back on the wagon and then you’ll see this meal and you’ll be like SAY WHAT!?! but we knew this was going to be a super caloric meal (it is a Rachel Ray recipe after all) (please don’t sue me Rachel Ray) but we had to try it. Megan found this awesome looking recipe for a jalapeno popper waffle so we gave it a shot. Basically, it was a waffle stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar and a cut up jalapeno. The recipe also suggested to serve it with an egg on top of it to enhance the awesomeness. So one waffle is 8 points alone and I had two with an egg so lunch was 18 points which is really high, but it was like the best comfort food I have ever had. I think next time, I’ll just have one waffle, an egg and then some bacon which would only make it 12 points which would be good for brunch.

Snacks for the day: I had 1 point of almonds and a 1 point banana. Hooray.

Dinner: We had some chicken and rice while watching Kill Bill Vol. 1 (one of my favorite movies ever.) It was pretty good! Dinner was 6 points so not too bad.

So today might seem pretty bad but I only went over 3 points! A 33 point day is not bad considering the Waffle of Awesomeness. With all the exercising I’m going to do this week, it’s going to be important to eat all my points and even some weekly points to save my body from going in to starvation mode. This week is going to rock. Get stoked dear readers. Prepare for awesomeness. Thanks for reading. I love you all and you smell nice. See ya tomorrow.

Day 319: WEIGH IN DAY!!!

So today is weigh in day…Has the suspense been killing you?

I did what I could this week and I had a goal in mind. Now what? IT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!! This week, I didn’t just meet my goal weight, I FREAKIN’ BLEW IT OUT TO THE WATER!!! I have officially joined the Century Club and boy does it feel fantastic! It took me a total of 48 weeks to do it, which included many highs and many lows, but with the support of my family, my church family, my awesome friends, random friends who I frankly did think would even care, strangers on the Internet, my beautiful wife who bought the scale when I didn’t want her to, and my faith in God, I have made it more that half way through my weight loss journey. Thank you thank you thank you all so much for your caring words, wall posts, accountability, and giving me advice all along the way. The race is not finished however, there is still a lot of progress to be made. Thankfully, God has blessed me with you dear reader and the support you bring, along with the tenacity to keep it going even when those chocolate covered pork rinds look good. I love every single one of you, thank you.

So anyways, I lost a total of 3.8 pounds this week which was a shock to me frankly. When I went to bed last night, I really hadn’t a clue about how it was going to go. At this point, I have lost a total of 101.2 pounds. (It was really weird to write that one in front of those numbers.) Like I said earlier, I’m less than 100 pounds away from my goal. I want to get down to 157ish, but we will see when I get closer where I’ll be. Wherever I end up I do know this, no matter how skinny I end up being, I will never abuse my body with food and that I’m going to be active for as long as my body will hold out. Get stoked.

Breakfast: I just had a wafflewich without the bananas which was delicious. Yumtastic!

Lunch: After church, we went over to Qdobas with some people from church since we had a BOGO coupon. Holla! I had the Craft 2 which is two entrees for pretty cheap. I had the Naked Burrito and the nachos. It was pretty delicious.

Non-Scale Victory: So the deal was when I broke 100 pounds, I was going to buy new work out clothes. Luckily, I broke it on the weekend of Tax Free Weekend in Florida! Anyways, I bought a new pair of Under Armour shorts, an UA compression shirt and this awesome workout shirt made by the brand Thrive. Don’t worry, pics to come (like tomorrow. Get ready for awesomeness.)

Dinner: For dinner, I just had a beach club at Jimmy John’s. Awesome as always.

So today was pretty good with food and tomorrow I’ll get back at Insanity. I’m ready to lose some more! See ya tomorrow.

Day 312: A Weigh In Wasssup

WAAAAASSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPP!!!!!

(Yes, this is 1998)

How are you? I know it’s been a while since we’ve talked and for that I apologize I suck. So I was secretly hoping that this was the week that I broke the 100 pound mark. Sadly, I didn’t make it, but I got closer than I have ever been! This week I lost 2.2 pounds which is soooo close! As of know I have lost a total of 97.4 pounds since September of last year, not too shabby I guess. Anyways, I have finally broke in to the 250’s! Barely, but still pretty cool.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi Awesomeness. A classic.

Lunch: After church a bunch of us went over to Momo’s for pizza the size of a European country. Since there were so many of us, they set up a buffet for us so it was $7 which included drinks and a tip. Pretty awesome. I held myself to four slices of pizza: a slice of pepperoni, a slice of bacon and two slices of cheese with mushroom. I did splurge a little, but as you’ll see from the rest of the post.

Snack: I had a small cookie that the awesome Emily Ward made last night. So good.

Dinner: I just had some leftover veggie spaghetti. Not too bad, but not super filling.

Snack: I had a frozen banana. Sweet action.

So it was a pretty good day, but I’m still pretty hungry. I’m not sure what I’ll do about that, but it will probably involve fruit or something low cal. I had an issue with counting calories last week so I’m going to work on that. Also, Leach is going to be closed for two weeks (so lame!!!!) so I’m going to pick back up on Insanity tomorrow, pending on whether my calf isn’t still cramped up. (My calf has been cramped up since basketball in the sauna known as Florida yesterday.) So I’m only 2.6 pounds away… time to drop some weight. Like. A. Boss. See ya tomorrow.

Day 292: Weigh In Tizzle

This week has been insane (you know… because of Insanity workouts) but it has also kicked my metabolism back in to gear. I started to eat more healthy calories (i.e. just filling, healthy, food) and for the first time since I’ve been in this plateau/funk/stubborn chub situation, I just feel good. I’m not worrying about the scale or the immediate caloric consequences of  what I’m eating. I feel like the way that I imagined what a healthy person felt like. When I was 357, I was sick, lazy, it was hard to breathe, and I could rest my head on my chest because of my numerous chins. I had all of these healthy friends and I always wondered what I that life was like, what it was like to be able to sit on a toilet without worrying about it breaking and things like that. This week, I finally got to feel that way. I felt free, and brothers and sisters let me tell you, that’s a freakin’ good feeling. So this week I actually lost 3.6 pounds!!! It was the best weigh in week I’ve had in 15 weeks. This funk I’ve been in has been rough, and I’m not saying it’s over, but the combination of doing an intense full body workout and feeding my body the fuel it needs has put me in a great place emotionally and physically. This week I lost the weight I gained in Texas and then some so I’m down to 261.2 which means I’m 4.2 pounds away from breaking 100. It finally feels real now, and when it happens, prepare to party.

Breakfast: I just had a bowl of Kashi Awesomeness. As the good book says (no.. not Where’s Waldo?) it was good.

Lunch: After church, our friends Daniel and Leah invited us to go to lunch at El Mercardito, this Mexican place on Tennessee. Since leaving Texas, we’ve been really hard pressed to find good Mexican in Tallahassee (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing) but I think we found our new place. I had two chicken burritos and they were killer. Usually when I go to a Mexican place, I dominate the chips and salsa and I am completely full so after I’m done I feel gross. Luckily, the first basket was free, but then you paid after so we kept it to two baskets split between four of us so it wasn’t as bad.

Snack: I just had a bowl of Captain Crunch which actually not that bad (150 calories with a 1/2 cup of skim milk) and it was awesome.

SAWS!!!: Today was Pure Cardio day for Insanity and it was pretty brutal, maybe not the worst, but horrifically exhausting nonetheless. I worked really hard, but I worked not to overdo it like I did once or twice last week. I felt awesome after, but I have a feeling I’m going to be really sore tomorrow.

Dinner: We were in a bit of a rush tonight so we got subs freaky fast at Jimmy Johns. I had the Beach club which is basically the veggie sub I get but with turkey. I also got half the mayo since the ones in Tallahassee don’t have a light mayo option. It was pretty awesome.

Dessert: I had some Edy’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough FroYo.

So today wasn’t terrible, but this week I’m going to stick to my calories and work out like a beast to get closer to get to the top of Mt. Fitintoskinnyjeans. See ya tomorrow.

Day 285: On the Train to Frustrationtown!

Hey Boys and Girls!

Well… I think I’ve hit a plateau. Statistically, I should be past 100 pounds already but for about the past 5-6 weeks, I’ve been stuck in the same weight range with a little losing and gaining. It’s been really frustrating I have to admit. I stuck close to my points for the majority of this week (except for Monday and dinner last night) and I worked out every day but I still gained .2 pounds this week. I know I know, it’s not much, but I’m still trying to get back to where I was before I left on my vacation. So I’m at 264.8 and I was at 262 before I left so I’m 7.8 pounds away from breaking 100. It feels like 257 is my magic number right now. It’s a mental block I have and I need to break it. So this week, I’m going to add some more workout time, try to count calories more than points, and drink water by the gallons. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Breakfast: I just had piece of toast with PB and half a banana 3 points. Then I had had a 3 point muffin.

Lunch: For lunch, the young professionals group from church decided to go to Genghis Grill for lunch and we had a blast. One of our friends Becky, who has lost 30 pounds like a boss, is the queen of bowl stacking so she showed us all how it’s done! The bowl on the left of raw goodness is Becky’s Bowl of Destruction, which she turns in to four meals total. (Yeah, she’s pretty legit.) Anyways, what she does at GG is when she gets her bowl she asks for the to go box immediately. So Megan and I both did that too and as soon as I got my bowl, I put enough in my the box to fill it and I still had a ton of food on my plate! By the time I was done I was still full while not feeling disgusting which was a nice change. The moral of this paragraph: Becky is a beast.

Snack: I had some chips. Nothing exciting.

Dinner: I just had my leftovers for dinner and they were just as epic as at lunch. In fact, they might have been better because I put Beaver Sweet Hot mustard on it which has a wasabi taste to it. Leftovers are awesome. Just saying.

Dessert: Megan and I went back to TCBY for some yogurt and it was still epic. It was only 5 ounces total which isnt near as bad as when I got to other places.

So that was my day. I felt like I did okay (not great) but tomorrow I’m really getting down to business. I know I shouldn’t put a time frame on these goals, but I want to break 100 by the end of the month. I’m going to Disney in a few weeks and I really want to get an “I’m Celebrating” pin, proclaiming my weight loss. Either way, I really do have to remember that I still have a lot to celebrate.

Here we go again….

See ya tomorrow.

278: Weigh Weigh After Vay Cay!

Sup yo!

So like I’ve said all this week, I got a little off track with the vacation (just one of those things that happens) and I wasn’t sure how it was going to reflect on the scale. Well, when we got back and I unofficially weighed Friday morning, I was at 269 pounds! 7 pounds up from when I left. I’m not going to lie I felt pretty crappy about it. I felt like I had let myself and you, my dear readers, down. From then on, I have stuck close to my points and have been eating right. When I got on the scale today, I was only at 264.6 which means from just two days of eating right, my body was able to drop five pounds of retained water and *ahem* waste! That just shows how easy it can be to get back on the horse and keep riding! So if you ever fall off for a while (which you will because life works that way) don’t fret about making up lost ground and just freakin’ go for it!!! Anyways, so I have gained 2.6 pounds since my last weigh in a few weeks ago and obviously you can’t be happy with a gain, but it’s totally manageable so I’m shooting to be back to where I was and then some by then end of this week!

Breakfast: For breakfast I had a Chobani with half a serving of Kashi. It was awesome. 4 points.

Megan made chocolate chip muffins for our young professionals class that I’ve started to teach at church so I had one and a half of those bad boys so that was another 4.5 points. Of all things, I definitely think muffins are my biggest weakness because I want to eat a bunch at a time and they are one of the worst breakfast things you can eat. #Deliciousfail (don’t knock the hashtag.)

Lunch: After church, we made grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. It is definitely one of my favorite meals ever because it is simple to make and it just warms your soul! (Even if it is 100 degrees outside!) 5 points

Snack: This afternoon, all I wanted to do was watch tv and chill. So that’s what I did. I was trying to watch LOTR: The Two Towers while trying to watch Space Jam while trying to watch Ken Burns the Civil War. It was an ADD nightmare with plots that had no resembling parallels. Anyways, so I had some popcorn for 4 points as well. (I took this picture during a Smeagel internal monologue. The creepiness of the photograph seemed fitting.)

Dinner: For dinner we had chili with brown rice. As always, Uncle Jim’s Vegetarian Chili was a great success in the MacDonald household. For dessert I had a No Pudge Fudge Brownie with ff cool whip and a little lite chocolate syrup. The brownies were just as good the second day! 15 points.

So today I got to 32.5 points which isn’t terrible since I have weekly points. I haven’t been counting them at all so I’m going to start doing that so I’m just not thinking “awe well, I have the weekly points so I’ll eat this chocolate covered ham steak with brown gravy. YUM!!!!” because that can get dangerous. See ya tomorrow.

Day 258: MAVS WIN AND SO DID I!!!!!!!

MAVS WIN BABY!!!!!!!

I can’t believe it happened.

I thought it was going to seven.

I thought LeBron was going to tear it up and dominate.

I thought Dirk being 1-12 in the first half was going to lead to our demise.

I thought it would be 2006 all over again.

Thank goodness I was wrong.

It was an awesome series, I never hated the Heat but after this series I don’t think I will ever cheer for them as long as they have the team they have now. Anyways, enough about that. So like I said yesterday I really didn’t think I was going to lose any weight because when I weighed earlier this week I had only lost .2 pounds. I have been really stressed, but last night I went gangbusters on my term paper which reduced my stress level considerably. I didn’t fall asleep until 5:00 am, but I woke up with stress gone. The stress must have weighed 2 pounds because that it what I lost this week! I was freakin’ stoked! Although I have a lot of sodium this week, I had stayed within my points and I worked out so it made sense. At this point I have officially lost 95 pounds and only 5 pounds away from the century mark. AKA: my halfway point.

Lunch: I woke up late so I waited to have some lunch. I had three Hebrew National hot dogs with a cup and a half of spaghetti o’s. It was an awesome lunch. 10.5 points

Snack: By the time I got up, it was about time to go to meet with my class for a final group project. I had a skinny caramel macchiato for 3 points.

Dinner: I went a little overboard for dinner. I went to Earth Fare for some dinner and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. In hindsight, I should have split it in to two meals, but I didn’t. Overall though, it was delicious.
Snack: When I was watching the Mavs game, I had a Smartone pizza bagels. 5 points.

Overall it was a good day, but I could have done better with dinner. I’ll have to just SAWS it off in the gym. See ya tomorrow.
