I've always wanted a blog. Now I have one.

Day 50: French Cooking and Other Awesomeness

The Amy’s Baking Company episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Wow.
I know that I’m a year late, but still…it’s awkwardly magical.

Anyway, let’s talk about food and stuff!

So this weekend was our sixth anniversary. Not only have I been incredibly blessed to be married to my best friend, I have had the best supporter and encourager in the entire world. Megan MacDonald, you are the cat’s pajamas. I love you.

After six years of wedded bliss, we have taken up cooking as couple. It has been quite the delicious pastime. So when we were trying to decide on how to celebrate, went decided to try to tackle the holy grail of cooking: Boeuf Bourguignon from Julia Child’s The Art of French Cooking with a dessert of crème brûlée. Now, we knew this wasn’t going to be an easy feat. In fact, it was going to be a six-hour ordeal. But we knew that it was going to be totally worth it. And holy Moses, it was. Think about the most tender roast beef, add a richly delicious wine sauce along with carrots and pearl onions and you’ll have a a pretty good idea of it. Oh yeah, and the crème brûlée tasted like angel’s wings.

Here are just a few photos of the awesomeness!
image_3 image_1 So tomorrow, I’ll get back to my regularly scheduled blogging! That is, UNTIL FITBLOGGIN’ THIS WEEKEND!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHH I’M SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!

See ya tomorrow.

Welcome To The New Home For The FFK!!!

new blogSo I was going to wait until next week to promote this, BUT I AM OFFICIALLY A SELF-HOSTING BLOGGER! I feel so grown up! I’ve spend most of tonight (when the power finally came back on) transferring files, downloading plugins (if you have a favorite plugin, let me know!), and exploring all the possibilities with this new format. I decided to go through bluehost.com which was ridiculously easily. I realllllllly wanted to get ffk.com but the Future Media Architects (because FMA and FFK are exactly the same abbreviations…) have claimed my beautiful domain. Jerks.

You might remember that I was going to self host at fotographingfatkid.com, but that kind of fell through for a few reasons. But this time, I didn’t want the whole blog name because A) it’s hard to spell out B) I sometimes forget to mention that Fotographing spelled with an F and not a P C) I was sick of explaining why it’s spelled with an F and (most importantly) D) when I get down to a healthy weight of my choosing (AKA when I reach Onederland), I’m going to change my blog name to The Fotographing Fit Kid. I can’t wait to get there!

Sooooooo….
It’s going to be a challenge to change my blog URL in every nook and cranny of the interwebs, so I am still in a transition phase. Especially since I just bought this awesome shirt on Thursday for Fitbloggin’…

Well…crap.

Like I said…transition phase.

So if you see my nathanalbert.wordpress.com anywhere on the Internet, let me know so I can change it! Anyway, check out my weigh in/delicious anniversary post either tomorrow or Monday right here!

Welcome to theffkid.com!

Day 45

This is me. I’m getting there…

So let’s get this going!

20140617-221012-79812552.jpg
Breakfat: I made my delicious morning concoction of old-fashioned oats with creamy peanut butter and brown sugar. Holy Moses that was delicious. 8 points.

20140617-221237-79957412.jpg
Lunch: I had another delicious concoction of chicken, curry, and Greek yogurt. I put it between some of the epic bread Megan made last week. Much yumtastic. I had a few marshmallows for dessert. 20 points.

For a snack. I had a bag of snow peas. Only 1 point!

20140617-222104-80464740.jpg
Dinner: After a long walk around the neighborhood, Megan made this spring stir fry chicken with snap peas, red peppers and onions from Skinnytaste. Definitely check it out! It was awesome! 12 points.

So it was a pretty good day! I feel like I’m making some great progress. Time to keep it going! See ya tomorrow.

Day 44

Hello!
Since yesterday was full of mixed emotions thanks to a gain and eating within my points, I was ready to keep the momentum going while improving on from last week. Weight loss definitely has its share of Pyrrhic victories where you lose a lot of battles, but eventually win the war. Either way, I am feeling good about today! Let’s break it down, shall we?

20140616-211153-76313667.jpg
Oh yeah…Go Spurs.

20140616-211235-76355431.jpg
Breakfast:I had Bacon and eggs with some bread that Megan made this weekend. (She makes some killer bread. Our house smelled delicious this weekend.) 10 points

Lunch:I had some leftover spaghetti that was ridiculously delicious. For dessert, I had some Trader Joe’s Frozen Greek Yogurt. It was pretty good, but it’s a little too tangy for me. I would add some honey and strawberries next time. 17 points

Exercise:Today was Start 2 Fitness workout day! (Shoutout to my Team MoWe peeps!) The first half of the hour, we did circuit training and weight machines, and then we did an endurance run on the track. During the step up station, our trainers encouraged us to hold weights while we stepped up. I picked a 40 pound kettlebell because that pretty much meant I was stepping up almost 300 pounds. It made me appreciate how far I’ve come and where I could be without that much weight attached to me. I’m really ready to get this extra weight off, folks.

20140616-212436-77076296.jpg
Dinner:When I got home, I had a piece of bread (3 points) and a serving and a half of this delicious dish called Mujaddara. Nothing better than lentils, rice and caramelized onions. 14 points.

After dinner, I had some light brie and crackers. 5 points.

So that’s about it! 49 points of deliciousness.

See ya tomorrow.

Oh yeah…
GO USA!!!!

Day 43 Weigh In Day

Dad and Me at the WeddingI don’t feel like I’m going to do my Dad justice in this post. He has been nothing but an amazing man in my life. I have been incredibly to have parents who have laughed, cried and prayed with me during my 27 years on this earth. Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader, Dad.

So, now that I’ve bawled all over my keyboard…

I have a pretty big presentation at work tomorrow and I’ve been working on it all evening so I’m pretty wiped and I’m going to keep this relatively brief.

This week, I was incredible with my eating and my fitness! Until Thursday, that is.
I was on point for most of the week, and I just let my guard down on Thursday and Friday. While I was actually pretty good on Saturday, it couldn’t make up for the damage of the other days. Because of that, I gained 1.4 this week. I’m not really thrilled, but it is what it is and I’ve already moved on. After I weighed, Megan and I sat down and talked about some of the issues we had last week and then talked about how we could do better this week. So after church, we got our grocery shopping out of the way and now we are set for the week, armed with healthy and delicious meals!

Today, I ate a total of 43 points (my lucky number. BT.) and I feel great and not deprived at all. According to WW, I’m supposed to eat 53 which is just insane so I modified it down.

So here’s to another week of healthy choices and a little better follow through! See ya tomorrow.

Now go! You chicken fat! Go!

Day 38 Terrific Tuesday!

So I’m going to keep this brief. I’m tired and I have a hella long day tomorrow.

20140610-223139-81099165.jpg
First things first, I was interviewed by the Tallahassee Democrat today about my weight loss journey!!!! It was so much fun and a pleasure to share my story. I’ll talk about the entire experience when the video comes out (hopefully in the next few days!) but I just want to give a shoutout to Rebeccah Lutz one more time for being so awesome and reaching out!

Alright, food stuff time.

20140610-223318-81198534.jpg
Breakfast: I made some oatmeal with a tablespoon of peanut butter and brown sugar thrown in. Holy yerm. 7 points.

20140610-223520-81320426.jpg
Lunch: Before my interview, I decided to get some lunch at Chipotle. Before I got there, I got on to the Chipotle website and built my bowl so before I got there, I knew that it was what I was going to get. It felt awesome not to deviate from my initial plan. 18 delicious points

After my interview, I got a delicious iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts. 1 glorious point.

20140610-224123-81683255.jpg
Exercise: After work, I went for a swim at Leach. I did 50 laps of awesomeness which is more than I’ve ever done! I could have done a little more, but the hot tub was calling my name :).

20140610-224345-81825432.jpg
Dinner:I came home to a fantastically delicious plate of mac n’ cheese and an arugula salad. I usually would eat a few portions, but I was stuffed after one serving. WHO AM I??? 8 points followed by 6 points of Trader Joe’s peanut butter cookies with milk.

So today, I got to 40 points which is fine with me. I’m really proud of how I did! We’ll see how Wednesday goes. See ya tomorrow.
